  • Induction Day 1

Well here I am on Day 1 and feeling good. I spent the last few days ridding the cupboards and refridgerator of all the illegal foods and last night we went grocery shopping together. One question though, we had a hard time trying to find lunch meat with 0 carbs......most contained 1 carb per serving, is that ok? Or is 0 our goal on the lunch meat? Thanks to this board and to everyone here.

I was going to say the same thing. Reading the lables is really important. Things I've been looking for are: sugar, nitrates, and sodium. I found a roast beef through the deli to have zero carbs without the nitrates...but it was mild on the salt list. Maybe check your deli and see what they have. It's a bit more pricey, but if you can get it shaved...it can go a little bit further (it looks "fluffier" to me).

Just checked the label and yes it is 1 gram of sugar per serving.......so does that mean absolutely not?

For me...I would avoid it because I know what a stich of sugar does to my taste buds and rolls me into cravings.

For others...they would ask where is it listed on the ingredients. Futher down the list means not as much in the meat.

Thanks for that........I suppose that since I have already purchased this package of lunchmeat I will finish it, and make sure next time to ask in the deli for that roast beef you mentioned. I dont know where you are from but any chance of you remembering who the roast beef was made by?

I avoid lunchmeats in general as they tend to be high in sodium but I have found some really nice turkey, etc at Costco.

Well Im at a loss.....my husband is on the diet too and he brown bags it to work everyday, he cant heat or cook anything on the jobsite. So lunchmeat and some salad has been the plan for his lunches, but honestly Im kinda lost as to how to add some variety into our other meals as well. Im totally new to the diet so I have no real experience at meal planning on the induction phase or any other phase for that matter. But Im open to suggestions ;-)

                  Re: Induction Day 1

I often carry lunch with me. I love chef's salad. (Assorted legal veggies, some cheese and chicken or sugarless ham). I bring mayo on the side to use as dressing. I often roast chicken for the purpose of using some of it in lunch. I usally also bring some cheese and some boiled eggs. Either is good for a snack or in the chef salad. I also make tenderloin and bring pieces around for snacks. I like it.

I have also looked for lunch meets but pretty much given up. I usually have some prosciutto in the fridge. It is good as snack (but not too often - salty stuff). Also found some salami without added sweet stuff but again just for the occasional bite.

Crustless quiches are a great lunchtime standby also, and easy to make in advance and store in the fridge.

                      Re: Induction Day 1

I don't remember the name brand of the roast beef...but never be afraid to ask the deli folks to see the content info or the wrapper from the meat that they keep in the case. Most of the time the folks are really nice.

I see your delima with brownbagging lunch for hubby. I have the same issue when I'm in school. I pretty much do the same thing as Liv....pack veggies, left over meats etc.

I might suggest to you to...

Cook up a beef roast and use it as the lunch meat. Cook up some boneless chicken, turkey, pork chops, etc. and store them in the fridge. You know what's in the meat you cook and it's a heck of a lot cheaper than buying deli meat, too.

He can have his choice of meat "sandwich" wrapped in lettuce, w/veggies etc.

And as for toppings/dippings to put in reusable/small containers or ziploc baggie....

I love mixing mayo/mustard w/1 pkt of Splenda (you have to work the proportions out the way you like...I'm a 1-1 type of gal and barely add Splenda because I like it zingy, but semi-sweet and goes great with chicken (I think). And I like to mix horseradish w/mayo when I have left over beef...clears the sinuses right up.

There's so many hand-helded veggies you could pack along with olives and pickles (watch the salt), but olives are my favorite snack because they're fatty and taste good when your craving something good and you can't get to it just yet.

Hope that helps you a bit. I'm sure you'll find some more great ideas in the food part of this forum.

Best wishes to your and your Hubby!

Does hubby have a way of keeping food cold? Chicken, tuna and salmon all make great meals, can be scooped up with pork rinds or cheese "crackers" or rolled in lettuce or stuffed into scooped-out cukes.
