  • ??? on tortilla, soy milk and morning bars

I have read the Dr Atkins book and there is some conflicting info in there. Like he said that the morning bars are ok on induction as well as some la tortilla factory shells. He talked about sugar free soy milk as being ok. I am a little confused as these item as not on the list. I bought some soy milk no sugar and I put my ground flax seed meal in an 8 oz glass once a day.

Those things are not acceptable until higher rungs in OWL.

Check the ingredients in the bars--most likely they contain milk (rung 2), nuts (rung 3), soy (rung 6), or grain (rung 9) ingredients, so they would not be legal until rung 9 of OWL. La tortilla shells are made with grains and are not legal until rung 9. Soy milk is a legume product and will not be legal until rung 6 of OWL.

The book was written by Dr. Atkins, but after his death, Atkins Nutritionals took over. Dr. Atkins was a doctor, Atkins Nutritionals is a business intent on making money by having you buy their products.

Ignore the recipes and sample menus. Eat ONLY the foods that are on the acceptable foods list for induction.

      what juli said
i remember being confused about the morning bars as well in the beginning and im glad i asked for advice here as they might not have been stalling me but they were a major crutch for me.
now i still have loads of them in the house and i believe they are legal for soon but i havent touched the stuff in 6 months and dont plan on doing so either

go with the basics, cook yourself and when the time comes bake yourself and always watch exactly what is in the processed foods u buy.
i have gotten used to checking every food i buy for ingredients and carb count and calculating how these would fit into my plan.

i think once u have been doing this for a while you will know what u can and cant have quite easily.
Date to reach goal: I don't care, as long as it happens :P

I am so upset. I ate some bars and i drank some sugar free soy milk this week. Because of the info in the book. Now I know from all of you that I should have waited. I have started to have cravings and I am upset ahhhhhhhh. I listened to all of your great advice and I will put all the bars, soy milk adn lo carb tortillas in the freezer or trash. It will be awhile before I am in rung 9 of OWL. I hope this did not ruin my weight loss for the week. I could just cry

I think all recent editions of the book have the misleading recipe section in it. I know mine does, and it's the "bible": the 2002 edition. I ignore the recipes.
