  • I want to face plant into a chocolate cake...

    seriously!!! It is because I "cant have it" I WANT it!!!! I am staying perfectily on program. Today is only day 2 of induction. And I am having intense carb cravings!!! I am resisting because I really really want to do this. but I am so scared I will get weak and dive right in!!!

    What do you do to curb your cravings??? Unfortuntaley we have carbs all over the house. I have a hubby and two young daughters, they eat their carbs!!!

    Hubby is working so I cant leave the kids and go for a walk.

    Any suggestions to get me through these awfull cravings??

      I agree with emma !! Eat ... but eat low carb fatty stuff .. like some cheddar cheese chunks dipped in mayo & mustard ... or some yummy bacon ... something like that ... Eat till you dont want anything else to eat ..... the High fat foords will make you feel full and satisfied ... Soon you wont have the cravings anymore .. they will go away !! I promise !!!

        Sugar free jello, pepperoni, string cheese (look at carbs)...these are things I eat when feeling that way. But it IS hard. I DID cheat which is why I started over.

          I love chocolate cake too but I look at it as a choice. When I chose cake I gained a bunch of weight. Now that I choose Atkins and I am losing a bunch. Remember that this is an addiction. Eat lots of fat and overtime the cravings will go away!

            YOur body is going through withdrawels from carbs thats why you want it and want it now. LOL Just stay strong and it WILL get easier i promise.

              I also agree with eating something fatty, also try L-glutamine....DANDR suggests it for sugar cravings.

                  Its a supplement found in any health food store or gnc store.



                  The long you stay on atkins the less cravings for sweets you will have trust me.

                    Here is what I do when I am craving something sweet or something else that is not legal.

                    I go in my bathroom and take off all of my clothes I look at myself in the mirror and then go in the closet and drag out 3 pairs of jeans that are too small for me to wear comfortably. When I started a month ago I could not even get them buttoned or zipped. They now button and zip but I still have a muffin top and my butt is the size of Texas.

                    This reminds me of two things--that I am making progress and that I still have a ways to go. Then I chug a bottle of water and brush my teeth.

                    This whole exercise takes about 5-10 minutes but it works every time!!

                      One of our members suggests a similar tactic to Pamela's suggestion - tell yourself you can eat that craved food - but you have to eat it naked in front of a full length mirror
                      The thought of that should help you eat a 'legal' highfat snack instead!! Hardboiled eggs are a good filling snack for me which I always have ready in the fridge!

                        LOL..on some of the suggestions.. I might have to try the standing naked when I am craving... But what I do sometimes is take a ounce of cream cheese and nuked it in the microwave for 15-20 seconds and add a packet of splenda... The creamy texture usually keeps me from wanting to cheat...

                          thanks everyone!! I ended up having two ounces of cheese. And I stood in front of the mirror for a while! the craving did go away for the most part. But still a little nagging there in the back of my brain. So I went to bed!!! needed the extra sleep anyway!!

                          so I won the battle yesterday!! Gosh I sure hope these cravings go away soon. This is usually what kills me when I try to lose weight! I obviously need low carb to be a way of life, because my body is definitely addicted to them!!

                            Good for you for resisting!
                            Now... onward to day four, five, six..... ad infinitum. You can do this!
                            (and believe me, nothing is like the feeling you'll get on reaching goal. Worth 1000 chocolate cakes piled one atop the other! Lol)

                              Good job, canada60! It *does* get easier, the longer you stick with it. You'll begin to notice that most of that carby junk doesn't even look like real food anymore.
