  • Induction Recipe ? cream limit

If I ate this wouldn't that be the limit for the day on cream? I think I've got it figured correctly. From Linda's Induction Menu

    SWISS ONION QUICHE
1 medium onion, chopped, 4 ounces
    1 tablespoon butter
    6 eggs
    1 cup heavy cream
    8 ounces Swiss cheese, shredded
    1/2 teaspoon salt
    Dash pepper
    Pinch chives, chopped, optional

Sauté the onions in butter until tender and slightly browned. Grease a 9-10" glass pie plate. Arrange the cheese on the bottom of the plate; top with the onions and spread them evenly over the cheese. Beat the eggs, cream, salt, pepper, and chives well. Pour evenly over the cheese and onions. Bake at 350º for 35-40 minutes until a knife inserted in the center comes out clean. Let stand 5 minutes or so to set before slicing.

    Makes 6-8 servings

Re: Induction Recipe ? cream limit

    1 cup = 8 fluid ounces = 16 tablespoons

The Induction limits for heavy cream are 2-3 tablespoons OR 3 fluid ounces (6 tablespoons) as a Special Category Food limit. The Special Category Foods might stall or slow weight loss so their use might need to be limited.

The recipe makes 6-8 servings. At 6 servings, 1 serving will contain 2 tablespoons +1 teaspoon heavy cream. At 8 servings, 1 serving will contain 2 tablespoons heavy cream.

If you do choose to eat this, then yes, you will need to limit your heavy cream consumption for the rest of the day. HOWEVER, you can cut the amount of cream by half and use water to make up the liquid volume. In other words, use 1/2 cup and 1/2 cup water. That will cut the number of carbs per serving (since heavy cream DOES contain carbs!) and it will decrease the amount of heavy cream per serving.
