  • Too many carbs from cheese?

I don't even know what to do here...Ok so I am craving cheese and yesterday I ate I am sure WAY too much. I am keeping count today of all of my carb intake but I need help with something....if we are hungry and we are supposed to eat fat what fats are you guys eatting? to go and fix a steak when I just need a snack seems un practical but is that basically what it will come down to? Also all the cheeses I bought say on the package no carbs or less than one but the book says all cheese has carbs...I am just plain confused??? HELP!!

the maximum cheese allowance on induction is 3-4 oz, just make sure you dont go over that, cheese does have carbs all dairy does.

According to the book, Dr. ATkins said to count every ounce of cheese as 1 net carb. And as Emma wrote there is a 3-4 ounce cheese limit.

a high fat snack could be something like roasted vegetables with olive oil (watch your veggie allowance). Pork rinds (in moderation). piece of salami, nuts (when you have reached that rung)

I buy those little pepperoni slices (Hormel, I think) at Walmart, 2 for $5 (at least in Idaho) and snack on those. They taste better to me when they're heated, but I'll eat them raw if there's not a microwave around. I keep deviled eggs on hand too, but they're not so easy to tote around in your purse...

Re: Too many carbs from cheese?

The fats that I eat are:
mayonnaise as a salad dressing as opposed to commercially prepared salad dressings (0 carbs)
Olive oil as salad dressing (you can get flavored ones that are delish!) (0 carbs)
Butter/olive oil on veggies 0 carbs
Eggs fried in butter 1 carb per egg
Fatty cuts of meat (like ribeye, poultry dark meat, pork dark meat, salmon) (0 carbs)
Animal fats (skin on the chicken, pork fat deep fried (chicharrones), fat on my steak, etc.) 0 carbs
                Avocado (has carbs--must be counted)
                Olives (has carbs--must be counted)

I, personally, don't eat bacon (or any other processed meat ie. sausage, ham, deli meats) anymore on a regular basis. The nitrates and sugar used for curing will cause me to retain water to the tune of 2-5 lbs depending on how much I eat. But, I did eat them during the first year of my weight loss. I might have lost faster had I not eaten those things.

Dairy products like the 3-4 ounces of cheese, 2-3 tbspns of cream allowed per day, are high fat as well. BUT they have carbs, too.

Keep in mind that Dr. Atkins said that during induction MOST of the 20 net carbs allowed per day are to be from your 3 cups of vegetables. This may mean 12-15 net carbs of veggies. Then if you add 3-4 ounces of cheese, that gets you up to 15-19 net carbs. If you add 2 tablespoons of cream, now you're at 18 to 21 net carbs.

If you are still hungry, it could be two things.

                  1. You aren't eating enough protein and fat with your carbohydrates. The protein and the vegetable fiber keeps you satisfied while you eat. The fat keeps you satisfied between meals. This is why Dr. Atkins said to eat a combination of fats, proteins and carbs for meals. So you NEVER want to eat a green salad or vegetable, unless you add a serving of fat and a serving of protein with it.

If you're intentionally or unintentionally doing a "low fat" version of Atkins, you will feel hunger more readily and you might not lose weight. The ability to get into lipolysis/ketosis is based on the ratio of fat to carbs we eat, according to Dr. Atkins.

                  2. You aren't eating enough food, period. Our bodies won't allow us to starve. So if we aren't eating enough food, it will tell us to eat more. Hunger is that message.

You might want to post your menu in the "REview My Menu" section of the board. Include the amounts of the foods you have been eating/drinking.

Hey Brit...Try baking some pepperoni slices until crunchy, real good. Make plenty for later urges. Also pepperoni with mozzarella cheese on top, nuke for 40 seconds...kinda like pizza. Also I make a bunch of chicken drumsticks and put them in the fridge, grab one when I need one.Good luck.

Weird. I'm a UW alum, I recommended pepperoni slices, didn't think to bake 'em, but jeez that sounds good... thinking about slicing and baking my leftover beef stick from Christmas now...great minds think alike... Go Dawgs! On an interesting aside, I live in Boise and proudly sport my Huskies jacket, much to the chagrin of the BSU fans here, which is everyone except the lawyers.
