  • Ranch Dressing??????

Hello, I have asked this question a couple of times but haven't really gotten an answer yet. My question is...

All ranch dressings that I have seen have sugar in the ingredients. I have looked at dozens of them along with caesar dressings. I know that we are aloud to have ranch and caesar dressing so I was wondering why, if they have sugar in them???? I mostly eat blue cheese since I have been able to find that without sugar in the ingredients but ate a salad today and a salad yesterday with ranch dressing.

The rules state that salad dressings should have no more than 2 net carbs per tablespoon and no added sugar. But some people eat salad dressings with added sugar anyway.

Oh I LOVE ranch. I can only find it with 2 carbs and 2 sugars. I was thinking of seeing if they have it in the carb smart brand or something like that. Would that be any better? I don't know because I haven't looked yet

I love Ranch as well -- mine has one carb per serving. Truthfully I haven't looked at the sugar serving, but since I am in ketosis I am not too worried about it. I ate it the last time with great results --- I just have to stay away from the Thousand Island... BAD!!

The Cub Foods by my house just doesn't seem to have a lot of things that I hear mentioned on this forum and it is really starting to bug me!!! I think I am going to start going over to Target to do my grocery shopping and give that a try. Anyone know if Target is any good or maybe Rainbow????

              Re: Ranch Dressing??????

I have eaten Hidden Valley Ranch (regular kind) which has 1 carb/.5 g sugar per tablespoon since starting induction and I usually eat 2 tablespoons per day. I don't think the minimal amount of sugar is a problem for me personally. I did find the Heinz Low Carb ketchup (yay!!). There is also a website called netrition.com which sells a huge variety of low carb stuff including salad dressings.

                Re: Ranch Dressing??????

I was a little confused about this myself. I have the less than 2 carb Ranch, and it's something I really have to have if I'm going to do salads long term.
I noticed that the Kraft (I think it's Kraft) Peppercorn Ranch has 1 carb, which is yummy too.

If there are better brands for our purpose I'll try to hunt those down, but I can't do without Ranch dressing!

I think the important part to remember is no ADDED sugar. Alot of those creamy dressings have sugar in them naturally like cream does.

                    Re: Ranch Dressing??????

I was worried about ranch dressing as well but I found a pretty good way around it I think! If you buy the dry mix it has barely any carbs in it (less that 1g for the whole package) and then you are supposed to mix it with milk and mayonnaise. For induction I just mixed it with less milk than it called for and more mayonnaise than it called for. It tastes just like normal ranch dressing that you would buy in a bottle but I know it has less carbs in it and more fat from the mayo which we need!

Please don't get suckered into thinking the only "salad" vegetable you can eat is lettuce. There are about 20 vegetables listed on the "salad" list. Compared to those vegetables, lettuce is a nutritional waste of time. Also, all the vegetables on the "salad" list can be cooked. For example, peppers are on the "salad" list and they can be used in stir-fries, etc.
