day 9, was in ketosis, now i'm not?!

  • day 9, was in ketosis, now i'm not?!

    i am on day 9 of induction. i have used the ketostix a few times and have turned pink. just now, i did it and it didn't change color at all, not even to show "trace" amounts. i know everyone says don't worry TOO much about the sticks, but seeing as how i have been pink the other times, i am worried about going backwards.

    i have not cheated... the only thing i have done wrong is two days ago i had a cream of mushroom soup (i was at a dinner party and i ate this and some plain salad) that the person who make it insisted only had vegetable stock, mushrooms, onions, and a little heavy cream. otherwise, that day every i eat had zero or very low carbs: 2 scrambled eggs/ butter, 1/2 cup of brocolli, 1 grilled chicken breast w/ 1 cup salad, and 1 oz. of cheddar cheese.

    should i be worried? i haven't gotten on the scale in a couple of days because i don't want to weight myself everyday. the last time i checked i was done 6 lbs and now i'm paranoid... uggghh.

    It may be just the sticks, but I put that through Fitday - obviously without exact details, but even so it only comes out at under 700 calories even though I guessed up when in doubt, and only 47% fat. I realise you might have had more butter than I allowed or mayo with your salad, but that seems very low on both fat and calories, even allowing for a bowl of what sounds like legal mushroom soup. The carbs are less than 5 net carbs for the day, which is extremely low.

    I don't know that 47% fat would put you in ketosis, but I doubt it.

    Are you eating enough? Enough fat? Enough veggies?

    It might be a good idea to post a detailed menu for a typical day, or to run it through fitday yourself.

      thank you for the suggestions! i would say that i definitely ate less on that day than usual, so i can see what you mean! i am going to check out fitday, it seems like a good tool.

        Great post Kate. I was going to say to post a few days worth of menu's so we can maybe pinpoint a problem

        Angel, fitday is a terrific tool for those of is who are obsessive and paranoid! Another thing for you to become addicted to, LOL!

          I had the same problem about a week ago and I started panicking! Then people here asked if I had other signs of ketosis and I realised I did! Also, I don't know if this is just me but I've found that on the days that I really drink a lot of water the sticks don't turn as dark. Don't know why but maybe it is the same with you and you had a lot of water that day?

            When the sticks are dark purple, it means you are dehydrated and should drink more water. With these sticks, which are only an indicator, you are either in ketosis, or you're not. Lightest pink is just fine. And sometimes it's hard to tell the light pink from the not in ketosis at all color! Don't panic!

              oh, its good to know that light pink is fine... i actually did it again tonight... because, yes, i'm paranoid... and it was definitely pink.

              plugging everything into fit day, i know i am on track. i am trying to hold out on weighing myself until i'm done with 14 days of induction because i dno't want to get in the habit of weighing myself obsessively. i lost 6 lbs so far, and i don't want to beat myself up if i don't lose a pound everyday, you know?

              the good news is that i'm feeling great and really feel like i can stick to this for the long run - which is important, because i have ALOT to lose!

                Kudos to you for waiting until induction ois over to weigh. I know that's difficult. You must be a very strong person!
