  • 14 days done, feel great, but only 6 lbs down...

hello everyone, i just finished my 14 day induction yesterday. i had weighed myself once during induction and was happy to see a 6 lb loss (that was around day 7 or . however, when i weighed myself this morning, i was disappointed to see that i hadn't lost any more (that's what i get for not waiting to weigh myself i guess!) despite the fact that i have stuck to induction "cleanly" and not cheated at all.

anyway, my "time of month" should be starting today or tomorrow, so i am hoping that maybe i have water weight right now (i have been known to gain up to 5 lbs when TOM is coming) when my period is over i will see my weight go down.

regardless, i am not too discouraged. i started at 277 and now i'm 271. i finally signed up for the gym in my apartment complex and started exercising a few days ago. i am not missing the carbs as much as i thought, and most importantly i feel GOOD
i am thinking i should do extending induction, having well over 100 lbs to lose (i am a 5'3 female want to get down to around 150 anyway) and only losing 6 on the 14 days. how long do those of you who do the extended induction stay on that??

On a solid, clean induction you can expect to lose between 5-10% of the total amount of weight you need to lose. You're looking to lose 127lbs. 10% of that would be 12.7lbs. 5% of that is 6.35lbs. Your loss is right on target

With TOM looming, if you're anything like most of us, you're retaining more water than the Hoover Dam. You'll whoosh when it's over and you can add that to your tally.

You've also started exercising and that will cause lactic acid *and* additional water retention. This is to be expected and is totally normal! When I switch up my exercise routines I gain anywhere from 2-4lbs and it lasts about 7+/- days before it goes away. It's your body's way of protecting itself from this new stress it's under. Once your body figures out that this new stress isn't a stress, but it's new norm, it'll let go of the extra water and WHOOSH.

You can stay on an extended induction, if you choose. Personally, I followed induction for 4 weeks before I moved on to OWL and I strongly recommend doing that. Faster weight loss is NOT better and statistically it's not as sustainable. People who increase their variety and don't let their body's acclimate to too low a level of carbs tend to be more successful and happier in the long run- which is ironic being that's sorta what the Good Doctor had in mind

Congrats on your success so far!

Congrats on your loss so far!

The first rung of OWL is just more veggies. I say, go for it.

I've done Atkins 2 times before now, and both of those times I stayed on extended induction the entire time before, in each case, at almost exactly 4.5 months, "something happened" and I started eating carbs again.

This time, I made a commitment to start OWL right away. WHat a difference! I have never become bored with my food choices, and the foods I missed most are at the beginning of the rungs - cottage cheese, berries, nuts.
      Start date: 7/29/2007

      Scale: SW:235 CW:193
      GW:150

Tape Measure: I've lost 42.5 inches as of 3/15/2008

      Mini goals:
      215 - met 9/10/07
      205 - met 10/17/07
      195 - met 2/20/08
      180

      I survived a two-month stall!

thank you both for the information and advice!

i think i am going to stay on induction for a week or so, just until my TOM is over so i can better gage where i am. when i posted earlier today, i suspected i might be bloated, but right now i KNOW i am... ugh... anyway, i know not to stay on induction too long because i did that the first time i tried atkins, and obviously that didn't work for me... otherwise i wouldn't be here now!

i think i am just a little nervous about OWL, because i'm afraid i'll stall or gain. i know that i shouldn't feel that way, its just scary to think about adding foods that i've been avoiding or limiting. but in the end, i want to do this the RIGHT way so that it works in the long run.

I'd recommend you take pictures weekly for comparison purposes. Often times people will "stall" in pounds but not in inches for periods of time.

This is long term, a bump in the road isn't any reason to get off at the next exit

Today is Day 14 for me and I've lost 8 lbs. Wish I lost more but 8 is good! YAY!

I plan on staying on Induction and eating less cheese.

            How's everyone else doing?
