  • Day one and was just wondering..

I have been reading the posts here and I am not sure of the fat/protein/carb percents. I thought all we had to do was eat the food allowed on induction and not have to worry about numbers. I am worried that maybe I am eating to much fat. I don't sit there snacking on mayo but I did not measure it or the butter I used.

Is it really important to do that or just use your best judgment when measuring food?
I sure hope I am doing this right.

Yes. The ratio should be around 65% fat, 30% protein and 5% carbs.

It is somehow important because excess protein can get broken into sugar and cause insulin release.

For induction most of us find that our ratios as mentioned by Einy work out to somewhere around the 65/30/5 mark if we follow the rules and eat only to appetite.

In fact nowhere in DANDR does Dr Atkins mention any percentages but the ratios apparently were arrived at via an analysis by Dukes University of the induction menus listed.

I knew nothing of these percentages till I had been on induction for a long time, but after looking at my fitday log of induction meals I found that my ratios were about the suggested numbers.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Do NOT worry about eating too much fat! (As long as you are getting your other allowed food groups in) Fat is your friend! I lost over 100lbs on Atkins, and when I stalled there were almost always one of two things I was doing wrong. 1) Not eating enough fat. 2) Not drinking enough water. Measure butter? Hahahaa!! That's for people on hard to follow low cal/fat diets to do! Unless its for a recipie, just dollop as much as you like on there! (as long as it's not on toast anyway..)
100 pounds gone forever from 12/03-11/04. Thank you Dr. Atkins, may you rest in peace...

Thanks everyone. I feel more at ease now and I am just going to go by the book and follow induction as it states.
