  • feeling a bit low

    Hi Guys
I am feeling a bit low today i am on day 13 and have lost 12lbs so far started at 233lb now 221lb. I have lost all enthusiasm for food, I am not hungry and feel a bit lost.
energy levels are good I am walking miles!! drinking plenty of water and having a good breakfast but it is lunchtime I struggle to find something I want to eat, I have been having a piece of meat or cheese on it's own cos I am so full up from breakfast. my evening meals are meat or fish with salad and veggies. Am I eating enough or will this slow down my loss.
    thanks Jane

    Re: feeling a bit low

Jane, the rule of thumb with induction is to make sure you dont go any longer than 6 waking hours without something to eat. There really isn't a lower limit as to how much you need to eat, just as long as its something. Also, dont eat until you feel stuffed, eat until you feel satisfied, although I am sure you are aware of that already

(does that make sense? It made sense to me typing it, but may not be clear)

And by the way, a 12lb loss in 13 days is absolutely brilliant! Keep up the good work.

I too have had days when i am feeling a bit blue. Not sure if it is part of this Atkins WOE but its there none the less. I find that I need to find something absolutely non-atkins related to do -- ie taking a bath, going to a movie, etc. My mind tends to overthink it and needs some down time. I just need a really
good distraction. If all else fails, a snuggle with my puppy is all it takes.
      Be encouraged and stay strong!

I've gathered that the not being hungry thing is pretty normal--and I personally think it's a great thing, as I definitely was addicted to food. I have been amazed at how long food keeps me full now that its not bad carbs. As mentioned above though, Dr A. recommends eating every six hours, and our bodies do need fuel. Congrats on your weight loss!

          Hi Jane:

Think about those 12 pnds you've lost and think how you'll feel when you lose 12 more! I can't wait to lose my first 12. You're doing great and I'm inspired by your weight loss to drink even more water.

You might try cutting down on the quantity of food at breakfast to see if this makes you more ready to eat at lunchtime.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

I agree with the advice given about needing to eat enough throughout the day ... it is possible your blood sugars are spiking and plummeting if you aren't eating every 4 to 6 hours. There were times I would just eat small snacks throughout the day ... just and egg in the morning and a mid morning snack of cream cheese and celery and a bit of tuna and a small salad for lunch and a mid afternoon snack of pepperoni and then dinner of chicken and broccoli. Everyone is different.

Additionally, don't disregard the fact that changing the way we eat can lead to a feeling of "loss". Before we found Atkins, many of us used food to fill a void. Without the carbs we used to eat, we find that we need to adjust to the healthier way we are now eating. Do your best but if it continues, you may want to see your doctor.

Hi, I'm only on day 5 but I'm getting crazy headaches and find that I have to make myself eat because otherwise I'm not really hungry.
Except when I do make myself eat, I can usually finish the meal cos I realize that I was hungry after all! I just need to make sure to follow the advice about eating at regular intervals
