    Re: Cheat Day?

Some people do and have the same results as you in addition to cheating so much they are out of ketosis/lipolysis and need a few days to get back in it. By cheating they sabotage their weight loss and lengthen the time it takes to get to their goal.

It's a great way to keep yourself discouraged and prevent yourself from succeeding isn't it? You strictly stay on the diet for a week. Then you have a cheat day. Set yourself back a couple of days. Weigh and measure yourself and find you didn't lose any pounds or inches. Get upset because the "diet isn't working." Come here to get re-motivated. Strictly stay on the diet for a week. Weigh/measure and see you've lost. Then "reward" yourself with a cheat day. Set yourself back a couple of days. Weigh and measure and find you regained what you lost. Get upset because the "diet isn't working". And so on.

Then of course, when someone advises you to not cheat, you'll get PMs or posts from folks who tell you they "always have a cheat day" and they "are losing weight just fine" so they don't see "what the big deal is with it. And shame on everyone here for not supporting you" with your cheats. So you're back a square one, this time with other people encouraging you to sabotage yourself.

I agree with every word that Megs wrote.

Cheating without meaning to or because you temporatily lost control is one thing, though never a happy event. Planning to cheat for a day, well, I don't intend to sound mean but I think that's crazy frankly. It's planning to fail.

Hey, I am the one who said it was crazy AND stupid. I am not looking for sympathy. I am writing to say that it IS a bad idea. To stop someone else from thinking it is "okay". It wasn't. I have never posted about cheating and then can't figure out why I can't loose........I am not looking for "hugs" or "pats on the back" from anyone. Otherwise, why would I admit I cheated.

Sorry Jen, I knew what you meant, and I know you feel rotten. I apologise for my post unreservedly.

Really I was sort of thinking as I wrote of anyone who happened by and thought it might somehow be ok to plan cheats. I should have made it clearer that I was thinking that way rather than having a go at you - which when I reread it it does sound like. I am really sorry.

It's quite common that people think it is somehow ok to cheat as long as it's planned. I was trying to make the point that I actually think it's worse.

That's okay, really. I was worried that I had offended you (or the above poster) in some way. It was a BAD IDEA, I know that. I won't do it again. I am totally dissapointed in my actions, trust me. But I didn't mean to upset anyone with my post.

Yep I agree that setting up a cheat day is crazy talk, when we all know one bite of bread, etc, in his words, is... "the kiss of death".. hah
I might set up a special carb controlled dessert, like the crustless cheese cake..something like that...totally yummy but totally legal.

                Re: Cheat Day?

I'm terrified of cheating. I'm a paranoid person sometimes and the horrors stories some of my friends have told me about the slightest thing slipping you out of ketosis hsa me looking at everything I eat with a microscope and a carb counter. I hope I can eventually ease up but I am honest enough with myself to know that if I ever cheat, it would become hard for me to go back.

I have cheated twice since starting and it was horrible. I felt sick and my weight loss stalled. It is so not worth it!

                    Re: Cheat Day?

Instead of planning 'cheat days' I'm always into giving myself a non-food treat as a pat on the back for achieving goals. I go somewhere special, do something special or buy myself a piece of clothing as a reward. As you said, its a bad idea.

                      Re: Cheat Day?

I did it shortly after induction when I was at the zoo for a whole day with nothing LC around. I now know packing something would have been a much better option but I was green.

I went from feeling fine and being able to walk around in the heat easily to almost crawling up the hills and having to sit down everytime I saw a bench. The sugar & carbs totally zapped me and I thought I was literally dying.

we certainly don't need support to "cheat"....there are plenty of people around to do that!!

                          Re: Cheat Day?

I ate some sauceless hotwings last night and I think they had too much breading or something. It really made me feel sick at my stomach.

And, lol, get this. I went wine tasting with my friends. We went to four wineries and I said I would choose one of them to taste at. At the one place I was having some wine, they were eating these tiny oyster crackers and saying how good they were (one of my friends' is 90 pounds btw) and that I should try. I put one in my mouth but I kinda made a face, not one that anyone would notice but my husband. He said "Is it good?" I nodded my head and just stood there. After a moment, he held out his hand and I spit it out into his palm. I just couldn't do it...I couldn't eat it.

Fortunately, I've seen enough people in four years on this board who pre-announce their cheats (wedding, vacations, special occasion) and we never see them again! Glad you came back today and reminded us. For me it isn't the food, it is the emotion behind it ... on bite leads to another and another and pretty soon I imagine I'll be driving around going through drive thru's and supersizing everything I order!! I'm not going back there ... it was what got me into this mess!
