  • Ketosis- need some clarity

OK - when your body is in ketosis, will you always lose weight? Does it always mean that you are burning stored fat or burning fat that you consumed in the day's food intake? Confused...

It means you are primarily burning fat, it does not mean you are losing weight, you can gain weight in ketosis.

If you follow the plan correctly however, you will lose weight.

How can you gain weight in ketosis? By eating too much fat that day??

by eating too much in general,
by eating frankenfoods - bars/shakes have been known to make people gain
        aspartame is a known staller.

i wouldnt say eating too much fat, for me it was eating too much protein.

The key seems to be to keep the protein low and ramp up the fat. I struggle with adding fat to my daily menu. I am not big on creams, etc. Atkins recommends 35% protein but in reading some of the more successful losers, I am finding that they keep it pretty close to 25% for the protein part. Any suggestions regarding the fat part? I will admit that it really is a head battle because of being programmed for ALL of my life about watching those rotten little fat grams.

Eating fat doesn't make you fat. Eating too many carbohydrates will. Carbs are sugars. Sugars are easily used by the body as fuel. Excess sugar is stored as fat. Excess protein is converted to a type of sugar too.

Fats are broken down into sugars too, but your body needs to use energy in order to break the fat into sugars.

The low fat diet theory is based upon calories--not how your body metabolizes food. That's why fat was demonized. 1 gram of fat has 9 calories. 1 gram of protein has 4 and 1 gram of carb has 4. So if you look at diet solely on the basis of calories, the lower calorie foods would be better to eat, because they are lower calorie.
