Re: Mistakes I made during the first week of induction

Hey, I'm on Day 5 and I lost 5-lbs then gained one!
Only, I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. Or am I doing anything wrong?

    Here are some possibilities:
Maybe I need to up my veggies? (I eat 2 cups daily)
Maybe it's the coffee? (Day 2 & 3 i had a small cup w/ cream, Day 4 I had a small decaf w/ cream and Day 5 (today) I had a green tea in the morning).

According to Fitday, here's my breakdown for the past 3 days:

    Total: 1327 calories
    Fat: 69%
    Carbs: 4% (15g)
    Protein: 27%

    Total: 1426 calories
    Fat: 66%
    Carbs: 3% (12g)
    Protein: 32%

    Total: 1386 calories
    Fat: 68%
    Carbs: 3% (14g)
    Protein: 29%

    Any ideas?

IMO weighing every day is what you're doing wrong.
4lbs in a week is spot on. Some do better, some do worse.

its the same principal as basting the meat. aka squeezing the juices ove it. Well in the cas of some peoplre and restaurants they baste from the inside. Putting a mixture of acidic things like lemonjuice in a syringe and injecting the meat with it will make it much MUCH more tender if you let it sit for a day or 2 after injection.

            well..yea...I know...but you don't normally baste steak...it's quick cooked....some people marinate steaks...I don't ....I just buy good steak....

it must be really cheap a$$ steak if they need to inject it....

also...when someone orders a steak, they assume they are getting just meat....I think it's wrong to just arbitrarily toss stuff in that you wouldn't reasonably expect to be there....I certainly wouldn't have thought to ask my server if my food was injected with off-the-wall additives.....

I've owned and managed restaurants for many years, and I would never feed someone something without their knowledge.

This bit about injecting sugars into meat freaked me OUT! Do all restaurants do this? Am I limited to chicken caesar salads when I eat out?

How about The Keg (a Candian steak restaurant), do they inject sugars as well?

The only way to know for certain would be to ask them. I looked for a website for them and found a review of the restaurant which started with the words
If you have a special dietary need, be sure to inform your server and the restaurant will be happy to accommodate your request.
I also found this nutritional info
http://en.kegsteakhouse.com/nutritional_charts/ where it looks as if all the meat has 'some' carbs (1.8 carbs for plain sirloin 'prepped'), so there might be some injecting going on
You will have to specify just what sauce if any you want as those listed as coming with sauce have more carbs listed.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Re: Mistakes I made during the first week of induction

I just went to the grocer's and bought all natural organic meats and veggies. I'm not trusting restaurants at this point, especially on Induction. When I have more carb leeway, I might not care about the extra 1.8 carbs but it's still scary that so much commercial food is treated with something or others, these days.

I agree..it is less worry to eat at home, esp during induction..

                    home food tastes better anyway!

                      mistakes I made.

first time I did atkins I didn't do nearly enough veggies. . . bad idea, unless of course you like not going to the bathroom.

the biggest mistake I made was not sticking to it the first time I lost weight...

                      that will not happen again.

I made so many mistakes the first time I did Atkins, partly because I didn't read the book properly!

                          - I ate ketchup (really didn't think about it containing sugar - drrr)
                          - I drank lime cordial and soda (not thinking that lime would have carbs)
                          - I ate loads of low carb alternative products (I have avoided all of these this time round including low carb ketcup etc. I think they have a place in maintenance)
                          - I increased the wrong carbs - rather than adding more veg, I added more cream etc.

I was craving all the time! This time round I have had two small slips (and no carb frenzies!)

I just finished my two weeks a few days ago...the hardest thing for me was eating too many vegetables...I was never one to weigh out or measure my food (probably one reason I need to lose weight) but trying to stuff broccoli into a cup...or lettuce...lol...just seemed weird to me...so I just eyeballed it for the first few days...I stayed under 20 net carbs total but probably went over the 3 total cups of vegetables rule a few times...but now I've got myself a nifty little scale and am weighing things out...
