  • Which carb count is correct?

Hi, I was just on the Atkins Carb Counter and it said that a chicken egg was 0.6 carbs, but in the one of the books I have (U.K version) Atkins Shopping Guide it says that an egg is 0.1g no matter whether it is hen's, duck's quail or whatever
Please help! I don't eat much meat so eggs are important.

I count eggs as .5 of a carb. It's going to vary according to size, but that's a good average. I eat medium size eggs, jumbo size eggs would be close to 1g.

Re: Which carb count is correct?

        It certainly IS confusing, Skinnyjeans

Unfortunately some of the UK published Atkins books have errors in them. Like where the US versions say '2-3 cups of salad vegetables' the UK book editor decided to put a weight measurement (230-340 grams) instead as cup measures for solids are not really a UK thing.

So you could be over (or under) eating your vegetables as some weigh heavier than others.

1 cup of chopped celery = 110 grams whereas 1 cup of iceberg lettuce = 55 grams, so if you went by the UK version you might think you could have the equivalent of 4-6 cups of iceberg if that was your veg of choice.

(This wouldnt be a total disaster btw as no-one ever got fat from eating lettuce, as Emma would say but it is confusing)

There is a good thread on this forum called 'weights of vegetables per cup' http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...ad.php?t=41620 which Soliwit compiled for those of us living outside the USA who never heard of using cups (a measure for liquids) to measure solid foods like vegetables.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!
