  • PLEASE HELP.....Induction Flu?

    Hello Everyone,
I started induction 48 hours ago, I have not cheated at all. This morning around 6 am I woke up to use the bathroom and was very disoriented (bumping into walls) very weak, shaking, and could feel my heart pumping out of my chest. I got really scared and had my husband bring me a hostess pie and ate it down as fast as I could. (To raise my blood sugar) Now I am completely lost........I am going to continue as usual, like this never happened. But will it happen again? Did I just doom myself to failure or set myself back to the beginning again? AAAAAhhhhh..... Should I have been so scared or does this happen to everyone? Please help! I am very serious about sticking to the plan without cheating.....but I was very scared. I've got three small girls, can't die just yet!
Any advice will be very appreciated.
    Thanks!
By the way....I just checked the Nutrition Facts for that hostess, are you ready for this? 24g Fat & 61g CARBS!! Well now I'm at my carb limit for the next four days!!

I felt pretty shaky and weak for the first 4 days... well since this is day 5 I guess I've just feel weak and shaky When that happens I really need more water (like lots of water). This is the first day I have felt truly hydrated and bam... no icky feeling and tons of energy. I think my body gets to it's fat burning waste limit and needs flushed out or something. But yes, a lot of people get icky feelings right in the first week. Make sure you get your 3 cups veggies in and eat enough as well.

I felt the same things- very weak, dizzy and shaky. It passed for me within a few days. Chalk it up to your body trying to protest the changes. Push through and you will be over the moon when the energy thing kicks in. It is worth it!

Thank you for your replies!! I guess it is a normal thing...ooops. Well I will know better for next time. I thought the "flu" was just supposed to be a generally weak, rundown feeling.....but this was TERRIBLE AND INTENSE...I really thought it was bad bad news! But I am back on track and even weighed myself this morning and after just two days I am down 5lbs! (water weight, I'm sure..but exciting and motivating none the less!)

        Thanks again!

Most likely you used to eat lot of sugar and other carbs on pre-Atkins. This is very normal body reaction.. I had the same thing especially since I used to be a BIG rice, ice cream and cookies lover. All this will go away by the 2nd week, so please don't give up.

Just take your share of protein, veggies and as much water as you can. Although always best to workout during induction, but very well understood that many people get induction flue (I did) and you can always take it easy and rest a bit during the first week or even the the first couple of weeks. You will feel way better after the 1st week and then way way better than pre-Atkins once induction is over..

              Re: PLEASE HELP.....Induction Flu?

Low sugar episodes are frightening whenever they come, but even more so when you're making such large changes. When you feel your sugar dip, reach for a higher starch veggie that we can have like bell pepper or eat a piece of cheese. This helped my sugar levels during my first week of Induction which was absolutely miserable. Your body is just adjusting to a new way of doing things. You'll do great! Remember the cheese.

                Re: PLEASE HELP.....Induction Flu?

I have to definatley agree with Tim on the cheese! I am going on day 4 of my induction and on the 2nd day I thought I was going to pass out! I was very weak, shaky and felt miserable. I quickly grabbed a slice of cheese and some cold water...worked wonders. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm still tired now...but I know this is normal from doing Atkins before. Also a tip, from experience...if you drink any form of caffine and notice these side effects after drinking it...stop drinking it. I don't know what it is about caffine and that low blood sugar feeling, but for some it makes you feel like you have the flu again.
