  • Up your Water Intake: Celestial Seasonings

If this is posted elsewhere, please forgive me!

Just some info that might help anyone who is looking for an all-phases way to up their water intake!

I'm happily a water drinker but its because I was never a big fan of drinking milk or soda (it tends to creep me out) and no mater what diet I was on at the moment, my beloved juice was always just empty calories and sugar. I'm also not a big plain tea drinker. To me, its always tasted like warm dirt water.

But this may be a wonderful thing for any of us, especially those of us on levels that don't allow any fruit but we find ourselves craving the taste. Atkins is OK with decaffienated tea that contains no other sugars/carbs/etc.

If you aren't a big plain tea drinker but are avoiding fake sugars and looking for something sweet, I suggest at least TRYING Celestial Seasonings tea! Most of their teas are caffiene free and natural (no sugars, no chemicals, etc .. no "-ose" ingredients). Just check because some of their Green Teas ARE caffeinated.

I'm really partial to ONLY their brand - even other teas in the same flavor taste terrible to me. I also use about 3 bags in my thermos verses the 1 or 2 they say. But I like STRONG flavor, lol, and they help trick myself into thinking I'm still getting that sweet fruit flavor.

    MY FAVORITE FLAVORS
    - True Blueberry (handsdown the best, sweet and muffiny, not tart)
    - Tangerine Orange Zinger
    - Raspberry Zinger
    - Strawberry Kiwi

Just remember that these will not count toward your 8-glasses of water per day.

Question.. if its plain tea (literally the same as adding lemon squirts to your water), why not count it toward water intake? I honestly am just asking. I understand not counting things such as coffee, diet soda, etc toward that count. I guess I just missed that in the book (and it MIGHT be there) and recently read a few articles stating this was good toward your h20 count?

I go through about 108 ounces of "tweaked" water a day: (3) 24 ounce bottles of Arrowhead that I add a dash of lemon to. Another 36 ounces comes from (3) 12 ounce containers of my tea.

I also typically run through a few glasses of ice water when I'm at home and not in the office. Maybe 20-24 ounces. I'd hope clear liquids, such as decaf/natural teas, water with lemon can add to the water count?

Yummy, thanks for the tip! I'm not a big tea drinker, but I drink it when I want something warm and not coffee.

          Acceptable Beverages
Be sure to drink a minimum of eight eight-ounce glasses of water each day, including:

          Filtered water
          Mineral water
          Spring water
          Tap water

Additionally, you can have the following:

Clear broth/bouillon (not all brands; read the label)
          Club soda
Cream, heavy or light (limit to two to three tablespoons a day; note carbohydrate content)
          Decaffeinated coffee or tea*
Diet soda made with sucralose (Splenda); be sure to count the carbs
Essence-flavored seltzer (must say "no calories" and should not contain aspartame)
Herb tea (without barley or any fruit sugar added)
Lemon juice or lime juice (note that each contains 2.8 grams carbohydrate per ounce); limit to two to three tablespoons

This is from DANDR. I don't make the rules, I just follow them...

The only thing that counts as water is, well, water!

Re: Up your Water Intake: Celestial Seasonings

I guess I found the article here: http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...ead.php?t=6779

But I also find many articles saying that clear liquids count (obviously off this forum and on various sites) but not things like juice, soda, things with additives.

So, depending on how you folks count your water, you still may want to try the tea to curb those fruit cravings in addition to plain water intake! =)

Decaffeinated herbal teas, diet soda and seltzer water are acceptable, but drink them in addition to your eight glasses of the pure stuff.

                From the article...

The tea is a great treat, and for when you want something other than water! Just make sure you get your 8 glasses in along with it.

Be sure that those teas don't contain fruit sugars. Soem herbal/fruited teas contain dried fruits, if that is the case with the Celestial Seasonings brand, then it's not legal for Induction (see the beverage list Juli copied.)

Re: Up your Water Intake: Celestial Seasonings

celestial seasons tea is great because It dissolves (or whatever tea does) well in cold water.
