  • Dry, bitter taste in mouth

I've on day 3 of induction, so far so good, but the worst problem is that my mouth constantly feels very dry and bitter. I just want to eat or drink something sweet in taste. I used to eat tons of fruits before but now I'm on atkins I know I had to stop eating them.
Any suggestions of any sweet tasting food/ drinks other than water which is induction friednly?

    Thanks for your help!

Congratulations -- you are in Ketosis! There are alot of ideas on how to get rid of that bitter/aluminy taste out there if you do a search of Ketosis. However, you can brush couple of times a day, breath sprays, chew on mint, dip a toothpick in cinnamon and suck/chew on it I believe there are others. For the dry mouth aspect make sure to keep drinking your water -- lots & lots of water.

Sorry the gum/mints are out... Don't know what pastilles are.

Vegetables. There are about 54 vegetables we are allowed to eat during Atkins Induction. The sweeter tasting ones include:

            Cucumbers
            Tomatoes
            Jicama
            Sweet peppers
            Pumpkin
            Snow Peas
            Fennel/Anise---if cooked
            Water Chestnuts
            Bamboo Shoots
Rhubarb--if cooked and sweetened with a non-sugar sweetener

I eat a cucumber slice now and again and it seems to help also, sometimes I put a little lemon in my water, that helps a bit too but for the most part, I honestly cant get rid of it but for me, its a small price to pay as I see that scale move!

Stay hydrated. The more water you drink the less obnoxious your breath will be. If you get even slightly dehydrated, which is easy to do, it gets worse.

I used to drink a lot of water and I did chew a few gums when it really became unbearable or if i was going for a meeting etc. Not more than 2 gums a day though..i just finished my induction and i have lost 12 lbs so far !!
