Just curious, I was thinking... as long as I keep my daily total carb intake below 20g (including cheese), is there any special reasons why we have to limt our cheese to 3-4 ounce per day? I really really like cheese, is it alright if I eat more than that amount but on the same time keep my overall carb intake to below 20g? Thanks!

Re: Why limit to 3-4 ounces of cheese a day?
Most of your carbs should come from vegetables. You are limited to not just 20 carbs a day, but must eat the required veg and they should constitute most of your carbs, so that puts an automatic limit on the amount of cheese and other carb containing foods you can eat.
A lot of people find that too much cheese stalls them, and need to eat even less than the 3-4oz. I don't know exactly why Dr A set that amount, but he did, and I'm sure he had a good reason.Kate

hi
Here's a link to an old thread I started of what an ounce of cheese looks like:

If you're on induction, you should be consuming 12 - 15 net carbs from veggies alone. FitDay is a great way to track your net carbs. If you'd like any help on this, it'd be my pleasure.

Re: Why limit to 3-4 ounces of cheese a day?
How I made sure I limited my cheese on starting Atkins was to buy it in blocks and when I unwrapped it, cut it into 2 ounce pieces and rewrap it separately.
If your cheese comes in one pound blocks (16 ounces) this is easy to do - first cut the block in half then each half in half again.
You will have 4 pieces of 4 ounces each which can be divided again into half (2 ounces) or even quarters to make one ounce chunks.Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

That is so practical, Elizellen. I wish my mind worked that way. I would have tried to calculate the angle of the sun hitting the cheese countered by the crosswinds from the ceiling fan and then measured the length of the cheese's shadow or something.Originally posted by ElizellenHow I made sure I limited my cheese on starting Atkins was to buy it in blocks and when I unwrapped it, cut it into 2 ounce pieces and rewrap it separately.

Now I can just cut the cheese up.

What I have problems with is figuring out how to make sure that I don't over-do shredded cheese. I try to use is liberally. 1 serving is a quarter of a cup, so I figure that must be an ounce when melted down. Am I way off base?Marcy

The best way to tell would be to weigh a quarter of a cup of the cheese.
Or grate one ounce of cheese and see how much of a cup it makes.
BTW most preshredded cheese is coated with starch to stop it sticking together so is really not induction-friendly.Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

Re: Why limit to 3-4 ounces of cheese a day?
Cheese con tains lactose, which breaks down into sugar. 3-4 oz of sugar ehhhh. I have developed a true appreciation for mozerella and colby jack so I do wish i oculd eat more butI am not upset about it cause I know Im better for not.
