  • Constipated!!

    Hello everyone...so I am on day 5 and really constipated!! I have been since day 1...anyone got suggestions of how maybe I can alter my diet or any summplements to take? Also which are the good multi-vits to take on induction?

    I was too around day 4 and 5, then it switched to diareah, weird. I think with the broccoli and veggies I am getting a good amount of fiber though. Everything has regulated now.

    Not sure about fiber supplements though I think some ppl take them.

      Maybe if you post a few days of menus we can suggest additions/alterations to help?
      Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

        The first time i did Atkins i was, just drink loads of water that really did help me.

          When i was doing my liquid diet i used Psyllium husk fiber. I now use ground flaxseed with creme and splenda. I recommend it and also make sure you drink at least 64oz of water. And i have also found that as I have progeress through this WOE I have skimped a bit on veggies and it has imapcted <pun intended> my losses.

            so i have tried the flax seed meal, psillium husks, veggies n lots of water but i still am very constipated ...i feel like i am just loading myself with fat without unloading anything :/....wat do u guys suggest i do now? do u think its the coffee n heavy cream (both of which i cannot live without) if anyone says yes i might have to give up those two for a day or two to get rid of the constipation which will make induction sooo hard...please help!!

              I was in your boat at first. I routinely take Colon Cleanse. If I'm having issues, I take it twice daily in addition to vitamins. I know how absolutely miserable constipation can be. I drink about 100 ounces of water a day as we;;. Although I may not "go" every day, it's usually 2-3 times a week. I make sure to get fiber from veggies too. It took a while for my body to regulate itself. Hang in there. It will get better.

                I have never taken any sort of pills or laxatives or cleanses! Here's what I do:

                1. Drink LOTS of water
                2. Exercise regularly
                3. Eat LOTS of different kinds of veggies with lots of fiber
                4. Watch my protein intake

                1/4 cup of fiber requires 2 pounds of water (or 1 litre) before it can "move" out of the digestive tract. Sometimes we add TOO MUCH fiber and we forget that our water requirements increase, too.

                Exercise always helps things work out. I can honestly say I've ALWAYS had a successful bathroom trip after a good run on the treadmill!

                Too much protein means too much iron, and too much iron can cause constipation. Make sure you're eating a good balance of foods.

                    have you not gone in 5 days or are you just going less?

                    I thought I Was constipated at first but my doctor told me that because I changed my diet so drastically and and consuming a lot less food it's just that I'm going less. He said it could also have been that my stomach expanded so much (which it does if you're big over eater) that now I have all this extra space that isn't getting filled like it used to.

                    the pipes are moving good now though but it was a turbulant first five days. Try a cucumber and lettuce salad. I call it the fiber bomb.



                    and like ketone said always eat your veggies raw, steamed or grilled. Never boil them. Microwave does a great job steaming veggies, especially frozen ones.

                      yes...haven't gone in almost 5 days today ..even amped up my exercise this am...maybe i am not eating enough? though last nights dinner was huge! i shlda gone this morning...or later on today but nothing so far

                        I just found out. It takes a while to work but if you eat a LOT of squash/pumkin and such it will help squash the issue. I was backed up a bit as well and for some reason squash is like a natural laxative for me. hmmm who'da thunk it.

                        I know that eating more than 1 cup of squash is not induction legal on ATKINS but if your on OWL rung 1 I would consider 2 cups of squash in one day and 2 cups of salad veggies. Personally I did all my veggies as squash while I was backed up and well its like baby food and you know how that turns out.. lol. I have had constipation, dizziness, increased anxiety and just feeling off since starting this WOE so I am just going to do what I feel is right for me. The squash is just a suggestion.
