How much did you start at? Not to mention, nothing wrong with losing 5 pounds, good job!!

I need to lose about 75 lbs. I am happy with 5 but it seems like everyone says it should be melting off????

its stated that during 14 day induction on averge a person will lose 5%-10% of what their total weight loss will be so you're right on track.

        great job.

I understand your frustration! We are all different as are our metabolisms. Dr. A addresses this in his book...Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution aka DANDR. The 2002 version is the one used by most on this board.

Have you read the book? Are you drinking enough water throughout the day? Are you exercising? Again many variables. The big question is how are you feeling? Do you have more energy? Are you sleeping better? Has your appetite decreased? Are your clothes fitting better? Make sure you take your measurements & keep track of the inches you lose. Don't measure your success just by the number on the scale!!

Hang in there & don't give up.

5 pounds in 2 weeks is incredible! Double that and you might be down a full dress size.

But if you have an inkling that something is amiss in your menu, feel free to post a typical day for critique in accordance with the Dr. Atkins' New Diet Revolution book. You'll get to the bottom of it. In the meantime, really eyeball this list to make absolute certain you're not having any low-carb bars, low-carb tortillas/bread, low-carb chocolate or other candies, etc.

I lost about 15 pounds during strict induction. But I only had 30 to loose (I have since decided to go for 40 when I hit the 30 goal which I am VERY close to).

CONGRATS on 5 pounds!!! When I saw that first five drop I was thrilled!

Re: weight loss amounts on induction

I am also having a hard time. Its my 7th day on induction and I have only lost 1.7lbs and I have been on a pretty strict induction. I also posed a similar question in another forum and I received this information which I believe is in DANDR.

Weight Loss During the First Two Weeks on a Fat-Burning Program for Patients at Three Levels of Obesity

Degree of Metabolic Resistance for Men
Pounds Lost in First 14 Days When Metabolic Resistance is high, average or low:
Pounds to Lose . High Average Low
                Less than 20 . . 4 . . 6 . . . 8
                20-50 . . . . . . 6 . . 9 . . 12
                Over 50 . . . . . 8 . . 12 . 16

Degree of Metabolic Resistance for Women
Pounds Lost in First 14 Days When Metabolic Resistance is high, average or low:
Pounds to Lose . High Average Low
                Less than 20 . . . 2 . . 4 . . . 6
                20-50 . . . . . . . 3 . . 6 . . . 9
                Over 50 . . . . . . 4 . . 8 . . . 12

I also think I have candida and read that it can also hinder weight loss. Im going on to get some pills for that today.

Dont be discouraged. Keep at it. Im sure it will come off. Maybe you can do another week of induction which is what I plan to do. My hope is that it will start coming off. Dont put all of your hope in the first 2 weeks.

                Hang in there!!!!

Re: weight loss amounts on induction

Okay first off - congrats at losing the 5 lbs!! Thats a success in my book. If you doubt it go to the store and get a 5 lb pound of potatoes and lug that around for a couple of hours!! We all lose at different speeds and levels - I start out losing slowly.. but after being on Atkins for a while I start to see noticeable results. I agree with the others - don't base the success of this diet on what a scale says --- how do your clothes feel (are they loosier, baggier??) do you have a little more energy. Try to put the scales away and pay attention to what your body is telling you. Many of people on this board have stated that know one is going to know that you lost a "specific: amount of pounds unless you tell them -- but they will notice that you are looking slimmer & around the waist, face, etc .... Just hang in there!
