So I went to the bulk barn this weekend to pick up some flax meal. Now I can't remember the name exactly, but when I asked the guy he said it was flax meal, just another name. I looked at the nutritional info on it though and it says it has 34g of carbs for 100g serving. Even the flax seeds had that much. Why is flax allowed if it has so many carbs?

Re: Flax?
Look at the fiber content. Flax typically has nearly as many grams of fiber as total carbs, so the digestible carbs for two tablespoons is usually less than one.

Yes, Flax meal is high in carb count. When adding the fiber grams into the equation it brings the Net Carb way down.
For instance-
1 cup flaxseed = 2.63 grams Net Carbs
1 cup ground seed= 1.75 grams Net Carbs

Re: Flax?
Page 77 DANDROriginally posted by DesignbabeI still don't get what is the technical difference between net carbs and gross carbs. Can someone explain?
"Let's compare a cookie made with white flour and sugar with a couple of fiber-rich cookies. Both contain 10 grams of carbs. But there the similarities ends. Eat the cookie and you'll send al 10 grams of carbs coursing into your blood stream. But when you chomp into the crackers (which have, say, 4 grams fiber) only six of those 10 grams impact on your blood sugar. Basically, you can deduct the grams of fiber from the food's total carb count. I call the net number of grams. "The carbs that count when you do Atkins." In the case of those crackers, you got a 4-gram free ride."
Read Chapter 8 page 74 in DANDR The Complexities of Carbohydrates to get a full understanding,
