  • Ketosis breath

Ok I read here that when your in Ketosis you have a metalic taste in your mouth and you breath is a bit stinky. Well Im curious to know if all breaths are stinky. The reason I ask is im in moderate ketosis per the stick and have been since the 3rd day of induction and I have had the metal mouth but my breath is not too stinky. Im happy that its not but I just wanted to hear from everyone how bad it is and does it really matter how bad your breath is

    Re: Ketosis breath

Okay, I don't think the stinker the breath the better... If you are in ketosis - you are in ketosis. If you are drinking lots of water like you are supposed to this is probably helping with the breath issue. However, I believe all our bodies react differently while in ketosis. For example the first time I did Atkins I did get the metallicy taste in my mouth and could even smell my own breath (and I am a smoker). This time however I haven't had the metalic taste -- just very very dry mouth so I am constantly drinking water & breath sprays to alleviate the dryness -- with the occasional pc. of gum ((luckily for me I can chew the same piece all day long & I count the carbs towards my daily goal)) ~~ so far no one has complained of my breath & and my youngest is NOT shy she would tell me in a heartbeat!!

      Re: Ketosis breath

Dr Atkins never thought of it as being 'stinky'. He described it in 'Fallacy #12'
Ketones, which impart a sweetish smell, do not cause what I would call bad breath. It's a different breath smell to be sure, but not an offensive one.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!
