  • Question

    Hello,

This is another attempt to have this WOE work for me. The first time I tried I was so motivated...the other four times I gave up because the atkins flu was really bad and I engourged in carbs to get rid of the feeling. I know it was the atkins flu cause twenty minutes later the headach was gone and I felt what I wanted to call "Better" The first time I did Atkins for exactly thirty days and lost exactly twenty pounds. This is day three of my re-start and I have already cheated. I had 1/2 PB&J sandwhich and a half cup of 2% milk. The craving just got so bad. My neice had been in labor all night and I didnt really eat much (two hamburger patties with cheese and 1 cup of mushrooms) and that was it for the whole day, not to mention walking around the hospital with her for two hours. By the time I got home, I was so hungry it didnt matter what I ate. I had been craving it all day but feel like I used my neice and being starving for an excuse to eat it. I did only eat a half sandwhich and a half cup of milk even though I usually eat two sandwhiches and a big glass of milk when I do this to myself. Thinking back PB&J sandwhiches are always what gets me off track. The weird thing is I really never crave them when Im not trying to lose weight and I can eat what I want. I guess my question is are there any suggestions on how I can beat this craving? It gets so, so, so bad that I just eat it. I know Im addicted to food but it was not this hard the first time I did it. I was completely cheat free. By the way the other times that I tried this WOE I only lasted two days without cheating and then ate enough junk to last me a week (PB&J being the start) and I was not hungry when I did it. I really dont like meat but I can deal with it. Sorry for the long posting just needed to vent a little bit...kinda frustrated...Thanks for reading.

Now you have worked out what makes you indulge in those pb sandwiches you can plan ahead so as not to decide to do it again

Make sure you have 'legal' snacks and food available so you can choose those instead. Maybe make some 'revolution rolls' (recipe here http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...ead.php?t=6807) so you can have a 'legal' sandwich with maybe meat or cheese in it, or boil some eggs so you can mix chopped up egg with mayo and have that in between 2 pieces of rev rolls.

Failing to plan is planning to fail
So be prepared by taking something 'legal' with you when out and about so you can eat a small snack and take the edge of that hunger till you are home and can eat some of your preplanned allowed food.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

      Re: Question

      HI
The other thing I would do is get rid of the peanut butter and jelly so it isn't in your home and replace it with something legal for you. Set yourself up for success sweetie. If you know pb&j is what always sets you back then you need to make sure it's not around. I had to do the same thing. When I started this WOE I went through EVERYTHING and got rid of everything that I know could possible set me up to fail. You can do it hun!!! You really can

          Re: Question

I think that I told this story before...but the night I started Atkins, I wanted cookie dough so bad. I will never forget sitting on the couch with this internal war going on inside of me over cookie dough. I wanted to eat cookie dough so bad that I literally cried about it. I made excuses and bargained with myself, but in the end I didn't eat it. It sounds stupid, but that was my turning point. The next morning I was so proud of myself for resisting the cookie dough, and you know what? It gave me hope. I knew that if I had said no to that - I could do this. I honestly believe that had I given in and eaten cookie dough that night, I would still be 220 pounds (or more) today.

I learned that I could not tell myself that I could NEVER have something again - I had to tell myself I just won't have it today. I never have had cookie dough again, but back in the beginning thinking about never having some of the things that I loved was just too much for me to comprehend. Just try it...when you want something you shouldn't have, tell yourself you'll have it in two hours, a day, a week, whatever. When you want it again, tell yourself you can have it tomorrow...it might help.

But believe me, whatever your "cookie dough" is, you can beat it. Having snacks handy that you can have is a great way to beat the cravings. Having someone to talk to, even if it's on this board, is another great way to beat cravings. Getting everything out of your house that you shouldn't have works too. I have kids and while I took them off a lot of junk that isn't good for anyone and would only lead them to end up overweight like I did, I also understood that there was some things they could have that I could not. For those things, I bought a cheap pantry and put it in my mud room. I did not see them every time I opened a cabinet in my kitchen and I pretty much forgot about them.

Keep at it, find what works for you, and you will get it right!

            Re: Question

Thank you sooo much for your reply. Thanks for the idea about the pantry. I have three kids so its a great suggestion. I will be trying that out. I restarted today and thanks to all of you on the board and your positive encouragement. I did not cheat. The craving went away after about thirty minutes and I just drank so much water I couldnt eat it if I tried. Thanks so much to everyone for all of the positive feedback. One day at a time!
