  • I Missed Lunch.. what to do?

    Hello everybody..
I'm on call at work and have to drive elsewhere to work on computers and networks. TOday I was called out to work on a spyware infected PC and I ended up being there for like 6 hours missing lunch which was back at work!

What should one do in a situation like this? Its 7PM and I havent eaten since 8AM.

I'm eating my salad from lunch and im just curious what I should do for "supper". Should I eat the salad I was gonna eat for lunch and then just eat dinner in an hour or two?

    Thanks

    ~Robert

Make sure your salad includes proteins and fats because we should be eating a combination of proteins, fats and carbs with every meal.

If you are still hungry in a couple of hours, eat enough to satisfy your hunger. If you aren't hungry, don't push the food.

What you have to do now is make contingency plans if something like this should happened again. You know, be like the Boys Scouts and always be prepared. If your job has you driving from place to place, you might want to invest in an insulated lunch bag and bring your meal with you when you get called out. That way, you'll have your meal ready at all times.

My salad that ive been eating daily for like 40 days only currently contains the iceberg mix + bacon ranch + some kind of allowed cheese... Im guessin this isnt fatty enough but I started out with (before I used my HEAD) with two slim jims, a sugar free jellow and at one point I even had a low carb yogurt but I was then corrected about what I was doing wrong. Oh actually I used to get those packs of "Real Bacon Bits" out of the dressing isle but I had a feeling those were horrible for me too!

Any suggestions? I guess I do a salad because its cheap and easy to make... im lazy! and I dont have a huge budget to work with..

      Thanks a lot..

PS I was a boy scout I just havent had this kind of thing EVER happen to me since being on Atkins!! I know now.

Megs is spot on... being prepared is really a key to this way of eating. Try to always have a high fat snack to hand, for emergencies such as the one you just had. Cheese, olives, avocado... a handful of nuts (when you get to the nut rung of OWL, not before) etc.

I don't know about prices in the US, but here in Italy lots of veggies such as spinach and cauliflower etc, can be even cheaper than certain salads. You need some of the vits and mins of veggies other than lettuce (celery, peppers, radishes in salads).

Keep your fats up (a tablespoon of oil goes a long way to upping the fats) and eat to satisfy your hunger, no more, no less.

Well, you can add protein to your salad by adding chicken or beef or seafood like shrimp/crab.

Many grocery stores sell rotissiere chickens for about $7. Buy a chicken, and use the meat for your salads. And just don't restrict yourself to slices of the chicken. Chop the chicken meat add mayo and have a scoop of chicken salad with your green salad.

If you cook a steak for dinner, cook two. Eat one for dinner and save the other one for lunch tomorrow.

Ditto for seafood. Sometimes I can find 2 pound bags of cooked frozen shrimp for about $10. Buy a bag and keep it in your freezer. A handful of the frozen shrimp makes a nice addition to a green salad. Tuna comes in little foil packs that are handy to store in your desk. I've seen little cups of salmon in the supermarket as well.

Re: I Missed Lunch.. what to do?

Currently I buy the $6 bag of chicken breats with rib meat.. ive been eating these for the 40 some days ive been on Atkins and Ive never questioned them.. should I? I know people say whole foods but I would HOPE that would be whole enough as I would think its just skinned, split and frozen lol.. but at this point I wouldnt be shocked if im not allowed to have it.

            Thanks

Re: I Missed Lunch.. what to do?

They sound ok to me... but living where I do, things are different. I'd check the ingredient list for anything that isn't allowed on your current phase of Atkins.

Re: I Missed Lunch.. what to do?

Hi there! I think when we mean "whole" foods, it means natural unprocessed items.. not neccessarily the "whole" food. So you're very welcome to utilize frozen skinless chicken breasts. I myself keep a bag of frozen diced chicken breast (Tyson) on hand to toss into my salads.

I'll use lettuce, Ranch or some other fatty creamy dressing (that has no more than 2 carbs per serving and I keep it to one serving), the chicken, bacon (Bacon Bits are soy products, but you should be able to use Real Bacon Bits, just check the label), maybe even a smidge of diced avocado to up my fat amount.

Do you have the book? Sometimes its really helpful, especially during Induction, to just re-read the food list. Its spelled out really easily. =)
