  • Do you believe that one person can make a difference?

Truly make a difference? I ask on a spiritual level. I don't have a job outside of the home. I'm a den leader for cub scouts and belong to a garden club. I sometimes wonder about my self worth.

About a month ago during a sleet and freezing rain storm a little lost dog ran up to me outside my home as I got out of my car with my kids. Poor thing was soaked to the skin, scared, and bleeding. I being the soft hearted (albiet stupid) person I was let the dog come in my house. I posted flyers all over town, called all the shelters, police stations, ect. And two days later no one had called for the dog. Everyone in my family was telling me to get rid of it that I didn't need another dog. (I have a 125lb lab) Finally the day before I was to take it to a shelter the dogs owner called me at 9:00 p.m. crying her eyes out begging me to tell her I still had her dog. Long story short she was reunited with her dog and I got the warm and fuzzies.

Later that night my husband asked me why I always go through the trouble to help people or animals and I told him... " I don't have a job and I dont make much of a difference in this world but for once I made a difference. It may have made the difference between that dog being put down or finding her family. But I made a difference."

I believe that this weight loss for me isn't just about losing the weight. Its a spiritual journey toward total wellness. I believe that I started to heal once I decided I was okay with whatever size I was. This Way Of Eating has helped me with that and its made me a more peaceful person.

Thanks everyone to reading my ramblings!

Re: Do you believe that one person can make a difference?

I was just listening to a CD from a sermon I missed at church. And it was a good reminder of the fact that we are in our bodies a short time before we are with Father God. And we have the choice to abuse our bodies and make our time on earth shorter. Or we can choose to be good stewards of our bodies, and do more with our time.

And when it comes to where does 1 person fit into all that - it reminds me of the scripture of the eye saying, I'm more important, so I can leave, or the foot saying it is more important than the hand. It takes ALL of us to reach and achieve the things God has prepared for us. And when we don't do our part, the whole suffers. Ever notice how stinkin even the tiniest things don't seem important...until they're injured or gone.

You do make a difference - just remember, it's all about planting seeds. You may not see them grow, but in due time there will be a harvest.

Re: Do you believe that one person can make a difference?

I ABSOLUTELY believe 1 person can make a difference. I know for a fact people come and go in and out of ones life but there are those individuals that you remember more than others for somethign they taught you, the way they made you feel, the way they spoke passionately, teaching you lessons and ideas, to be a btter person and be creative and never take failure as an option. Yah I believe 1 person can make a difference..... 1 individual CAN make or break a persons spirit, 1 individual can make or break a persons thinking, and 1 individual can make or break a persons hope. Some are more pornounced than others but this is EXACTLY what is meant by being put here for a reaosn

Re: Do you believe that one person can make a difference?

I not only believe that one person can make a difference, I believe we are put here to make a difference. Even if we aren't given thanks or appreciation for our efforts, I know that it is the unspoken thanks that we will be rewarded for someday. Keep giving to people and animals, keep helping and supporting even the ones who don't ask for your help. It is the only way that we can be enriched in our own lives and know that we did what we could and set examples for our kids and others.

This has been one of those philosophical posts that I love. It gets people thinking and in some way it offers comfort. I think that some of the answers have been so beautiful. Thank you!

Yes, I believe one person can make a difference. And often times its the little things we do that have a lasting effect on someone, the things we dont even realize we are doing...a friendly smile, a pat on the back, a hug to our children, saving an animal from the freezing rain.....i'm a stay-at-home-mom and through the years i've caught a little flack for not having a 'real job'..it use to bother me, but, then I realized that being able to be home with my children was a blessing, and it was what i wanted to do...and just maybe it was what God had intended for me as well, so, i choose to believe that that Is how I am making a difference....You go Girl!!!

Remember that the temptations that come into your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will keep the temptation from becoming so strong that you can't stand up against it. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you will not give in to it.

I didn't know you are from Korea! MY SM is Korean and Lives in Upstate NY. I really miss the Kimchee and Bulgogi. OOOh I'd eat the Kimbop all day! I'm drooling!

I use to live in this great town that had a great little Korean Resteraunt and I'd go there to eat as least once a month. I lived on Cucumber Kimchee and Rice and Bulgogi during my pregnancies

It's pretty delicious...but I still miss western food. Especially since starting Atkins. I have been here 6 years and moving back to Canada in September.
Bulgogi is pretty great. I am glad when they eat out they usually choose some kind of meat so I should be fine on Atkins.
The school I teach at gives me free meals which are heavenly and huge so it's going to be hard to quit those meals when I start back to work tomorrow.

Keep you head up! You can make a difference!
