  • Eggs...Fitday...and Carbs

I thought on induction we are allowed to have eggs. And I guess maybe I was under the impression that like meats, eggs dont have any carbs?? Well this morning I had an omlette, and when I put it into my "fitday", carbs show up. Why is that? So are there really carbs in eggs that I need to be aware of when I eat them, so I can include them in my daily count, or what is going on??

    Im lost...

    Thanks!

Yes there is carb in eggs (Unfortunatly - I love them) about 0.6 carb per egg and fitday counts them nicely for you.

Be careful how you enter eggs in Fit Day, however. For some unknown reason, Fit Day lists different nutrient (including carb) values for raw eggs and scrambled eggs even though the scrambled eggs don't list any ingredients. Some years ago 2big recommended entering everything possible as raw or uncooked and then listing any extra ingredients you add. I think this gives a more accruate carb count.

        Re: Eggs...Fitday...and Carbs

        Hi

I count 1 carb per egg (I round .6 up to 1), and have it entered as a custom food into Fitday.

I love using Fitday, and would like to offer some tips to anyone who may be interested.

About Fitday - I will be the first one to admit that it can be a pain in the @ss at first. But once you get some pointers, and some practice, it really does become simple.

First, don't forget to get Fitday to count the fiber for you. You do that by clicking on "Goals" on the left side of the screen. You are going to set a goal for fiber. It doesn't matter which number you choose - mine is set at 1, just to get it to count the fiber for me. Now, it will list fiber along with the other info for calories, fat, carbs, and protein. Just subtract the fiber from the carbs, and you have net carbs.

Also, I found that entering most of my foods as custom foods has made things easier. I have things like eggs and cheese entered as custom foods, because I count each of those as 1 carb even if the label says 0. I even have a lot of veggies entered as custom foods, because sometimes it can be tedious to wade through all of the choices on Fitday when you try to enter something. I use info from www.calorieking.com all of the time... I find their search is easier to use for some things, so I take that info and enter it as a custom food on fitday. I went into the kitchen with my laptop and went through the refrigerator and panty to enter the info from the label of everything I use.

I eat a lot of the same foods every day. That makes them easy to enter, because they can be pulled from the "recently eaten" category. And recipes that I eat a lot, like MUP or my Muffin in a Minute, I have come up with the nutrition facts for them and entered them as custom foods. You do that by going to a day where there is no other food entered, and enter all of the ingredients for the recipe. Write down your nutrition facts for the whole recipe, and then enter it as a custom food. Now, I just click once on "Muffin in a Minute", rather than enter 7 different ingredients for it. Saves a lot of time.

If anyone ever needs help, just give a shout. Someone will be able to help you out.

          Re: Eggs...Fitday...and Carbs

Thanks so much for all of the information! I was so confused, but now I get it . I really liked all of the tips for fitday as well because today is my first day and Im thinking, how is this thing accurate!! For instance, I was trying to find "chicken salad" and I did find it, but as one of the ingredients, the mayonaise listed was not the same nutrional information that mine was! That mayoniase had somewhere from 3-5 carbs for a serving, whereas mine that I use has none! (but I realize it probably has a trace amount so I enter it as 1/2 a carb for each serving) I agree that entering "custom" foods works pretty well.

          Thanks again!

Mitzimarie, you look GREAT by the way! People like you are my inspiration!

You are quite welcome! And thank YOU, for the kind words.

Yep, Fitday can give you fits, on some days.

Don't hesitate to ask any more questions that may crop up. It WILL get easier and faster in time.

            Good luck!
