  • grated cheese

I've looked everywhere and can't figure out how to count grated cheese. It says 2 tsp is 0 carbs but I want to use a lot more to substitute bread crumbs in my meatloaf. I'm looking at the dry stuff that comes in a jar. I've seen several recipes that use it but they only list the final carb count, it's not broken down. If anyone can help me I'd really appreciate it! Thanks.

    Re: grated cheese

You would be better to grate your own cheese, the ready grated stuff has floury stuff on it to prevent clumping, and you should not be eating that. That way you can just weigh it before you grate.

      Re: grated cheese

2 tsp is "0" carb. Many of the pre-grated/pre-shredded cheeses are coated with cornstarch to avoid clumping during storage.

To play it safe count every 2 tsp above that initial one as 1 net carb. So if you use a total of 1 cup, that's 22 net carbs

There are 3 teaspoons in 1 tablespoon. There are 16 tablespoons in 1 cup. Therefore there are 48 teaspoons in 1 cup .

If your cheese is parmesan, you can go to the USDA web site to get a carb count
