Re: Day 2 and feeling aweful...

I hear you Susan, I was a high carb binge eater. Ate full boxes of cookies at a time. Didn't eat much protein.

Kate, oh really I didn't know that about the Atkins site. Really really good to know. I need to get the book fast before I finish induction. Were my suggestions to Jonathan right??

Good luck Jonathan, try to read the book, go food shopping and make meal plans.

I put my plans on my fridge with all the carb totals.

Jonathan...it could possibly be a Stomach virus too.. I am on my 3rd day again and feel like i have a tummy bug.. I have been shaky for a couple of days now.. My suggestion is when you start to feel really sick..eat something with some fat. For me.. I am a Beef eater.. I had Chicken and Green Beans for lunch.. Took everything I had to eat it cause I want to throw up...but I knew I needed it in my system...

Re: Day 2 and feeling aweful...

Johnathan you can get the book on e-bay for very very little money. Thats how I got mine.

I cannot explain why your fasting didnt' make you feel that way. Perhaps it was because you were eating nothing. Here you can eat. For the induction you can eat and eat and eat and not get hungry. Once you apply yourself and get past the induction flu you will do well.

HOWEVER, I dont recommend continueing with your current diet until you've read the DANDR. You're not doing it correctly and I personally think its better to go into the diet with the right information behind you and a plan. Doing this 'modified' atkins will not help you in any way. It may even screw your system up. You might better go off until you get the book, than start on a thursday or Friday so you have the weekend to get over the induction flu.

when you don't eat your metabolism goes way down. That could be why you didn't feel hungry on the fasts. The idea of Atkins is to boost your metabolism so your buring more of your energy stores.

When you get the book and read the scientific information in there and the section on induction you will understand what we are all talking about.

Jonathan - you really will feel great after a few days. Just hang in there. Someone at my office suffered from severe induction flu and got over it in about 3 days. She's determined to stick with it now because she doesn't want to go through the headache, nausea, and generally feeling gross.

I had done Atkins years ago and just started again on January 7th. I didn't really suffer with the induction flu this time around. I had the book but didn't know where it went so I too was reading the atkins.com website and searching these boards. I did purchase another book and began re-reading last night. Having the book as a reference is key.

You'll do great on Atkins. The hardest part is just getting started. Good luck!

            Hi Jonathan,

Welcome to the Board and to Atkins. You've received a lot of good advice and I know you'll read the book and learn how to do this properly. I don't have a cure for induction flu other than taking some advil and trusting it will pass. Please don't refer to the Atkins site as it is filled with incorrect information that was added after Dr. Atkin's death. As Kate said you need to eat balanced meals which include veggies. When I first started I ate very few veggies and that was a mistake. Now I get most of my carbs from veggies and it has made a huge difference in how I feel and how much I lose.

Read the stickies on the Board and learn as much as you can. We all make mistakes (the first time around I lost 35 pounds on Atkins and gained it all back plus more because I never moved past induction...big mistake) but I learned from everyone on here and have moved forward.

            Good luck!

Since you don't have the book please read all the stickies on this site. They will help you out until you can get the book from ebay or a second hand store. Do plan on investing in it though as it has a lot of info in it. Worth every penny!! And that is coming from a cheapskate...LOL!

At no time does Atkins advocate no carbs so eat those veggies!!! Good luck!
