Re: tomato sauce
Vegetable juices or fruit juices aren't acceptable for Induction. The only juices allowed are lemon or lime juice in the amount of 2 to 3 tablespoons.~Megs~

Re: tomato sauce
I guess it's really important to read labels, isn't it? I just looked at a jar of so-called healthy choice brand tomato sauce I had in the cupboard and it says 12 grams of carbohydreates in 1/2 cup. I thought how can that be, so I read the label and it says sugar in the ingredients. Guess I'll start making my own sauce with plain old ripe tomatoes.

Re: tomato sauce
You could make your own sauce by using chopped tomatoes and some spices and cooking them to a 'mush' - or use canned tomatoes (check for added sugar).
Count the carbs from the tomatoes as part of your one cup of 'other vegetables' on the induction-allowed list.Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

I know tomato juice is not specifically listed in the induction acceptable list, but in Chapter 8, there is a table called "How (and When) to Eat Your Veggies". In it Dr. A. says tomatoes are the exception to the rules "Don't drink your vegetables" and "Cook carefully". Is there another place where tomato juice is specifically added?

Re: tomato sauce
Dr Atkins does tell us thisHowever, when describing the 'power of five' food additions for OWL Dr Atkins does list 1/2 cup of tomato juice among the juices (just below the fruits - rung 4) so it seems to me that he did allow us to add tomato juice as an OWL addition but not as an induction vegetable. Half a cup of tomato juice is quite a small amount though. I shudder when I think of how much I used to drink before Atkins!!4. Don't drink your vegetables. Juicing removes the fiber, which has the double merit of helping you feel full and maintaining a healthy digestive system. Juices also concentrate the sugars from vegetables, increasing the risk that they'll spike your blood sugar.Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

Re: tomato sauce
When my parents got married, mom got it into her head to have fine china and everything else needed to set the perfect table. After my older sister broke several things as a toddler, mom gave up on that idea and locked all the good stuff away for when we were older. Well, even though we got older, mom still didn't use the good things. So when she down-sized the house, she divided the good dinnerware amongst us.Originally posted by ElizellenDr Atkins does tell us this However, when describing the 'power of five' food additions for OWL Dr Atkins does list 1/2 cup of tomato juice among the juices (just below the fruits - rung 4) so it seems to me that he did allow us to add tomato juice as an OWL addition but not as an induction vegetable. Among her possessions was a set of pressed glass juice glasses. They hold a little less than 1/2 cup. According to mom, "everyone" used juice glasses at the breakfast table in the 50s and early 60s and it was one glass of juice per person---no refills.
I think it was during the 70s when the Florida citrus growers began heavily advertizing orange juice that juice became a standard for breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks....~Megs~

I think I will try to make my own, like Elizellen suggested. That way, I know it won't have sugar in it.
