    Re: Stomach pains?

Oh yeah. I had an attack and wound up having the gall bladder removed at the end of that week. It was nothing but scar tissue full of stones.

Yes, go in and get it checked out. If a stone escapes the gall bladder, it can be life-threatening. If you're looking to wait until May 1st for any surgeries, ease up on the fat until then. It's the gall bladder's natural function to kick in when you eat fat, which is when the stones start moving, plugging up little ducts, and causing all the discomfort.

      Re: Stomach pains?

Can I ask how long you have been doing the low carb diet?

In the beginning I feel that it is hard to eat the lettuce and the veggies if you are not use to them.

I agree with everyone else though if it hurts and you cant get relief please go see a Dr.

I am on day 5 now and I will admit I was not going on Monday and Tuesday - but then started having stomach pain and now holy cow. But I want to give it time to see if everything will just level out.

I hope you start to feel better.

        Re: Stomach pains?

Thank you shaunawa. I've been low carbing since 3/4 (day 1 and on atkins induction since 3/8 (day 14). The pain started within a few days of low carbing, and has happened everyday since. Sometimes the pain lasts for 20 - 30 minute, and some times a few hours. Last night it started when we got home from dinner (about 7:30-ish) and lasted until I fell asleep (around 11:00). Definitely my longest episode.

The walk in clinic opens in about 40 minutes, and I will be there waiting when it does.

I hope you feel better soon too!

          Hi Cherry
What did the clinic doctor say?
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

            Re: Stomach pains?

I am also on day 10 (and clean ) I got those "pains" alot the first few days along with very bad reflux. The pains I would perceive as hunger almost and I would get nausea as well. I still get nausea, especially in the morning. Make sure you are eating a balanced breakfast and a big one too, that helped me ALOT. I hope it passes soon!

              Re: Stomach pains?

Well, I went to the clinic ($50.00) and told her what was going on. I wasn't in pain this morning. She palpated my gallbladder area and boy their was definitely pain! She said I had a positive murphy test, and scheduled me right away over at a diagnostic clinic to get an ultrasound of my gallbladder ($92.00). She put STAT READ on the paper work, and said she'd call me today or tomorrow with the results. She said if I do have stones, I will need surgery.

I drove over to other clinic, waited about an hour and was finally seen. The tech did my ultrasound, took several pictures, appeared to be measuring something, and then when she finished up, asked me if I knew why my doctor wanted me to have the ultrasound. I told her that we thought I might have gallstones. She told me that she can't give me the results, but she would say that my doctor was a very smart woman. And then gave me a look. We then talked about it, about the surgery I am going to need, etc. She then said we didn't have this conversation. I asked her what conversation and she said exactly.

So, I am waiting to hear the official words and details, but tmn was right on the nose - I do have gallstones, and I am going to need surgery.

                Re: Stomach pains?

Hugs, Cherry. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

Although the whole works is a temporary nuisance, once you've healed and all, it'll all be good. If they can complete it through laproscopic surgery, it won't be too bad. I've had the incision hysterectomy, this gall bladder removal, and two thyroid surgeries. The gall bladder surgery was the easiest one for me to get through and recover from. I was up and walking around the next morning and antsy to get released (not to say I still had to take it very easy for two weeks.)

My sister and I have both gone through this. She collapsed from an attack while working at the hospital - they threw her in the room and kept her there until her surgery the next morning, even though she wanted to go back to work. I was luckier, I had about four days to prepare.

I'm sorry that you have to go through this, I sure wish you didn't. Again, if you have any questions, please ask away...

So sorry to hear you need surgery, Cherry

But it is good to know they have found out what was giving you so much pain and can do something about it.

                        Re: Stomach pains?

Today was my first day eating low carb, adn I've already gotten similar stomach pains. Very little Nausea associated, but I drink about 2 gallons of water a day over my 10 hour work day on my feet.

                          Re: Stomach pains?

Not sure what to do... my insurance started today, and I went to see a doctor first thing this morning. She drew some blood, i'm getting an ultrasound tomorrow, results next week. I am tired of waiting. I don't want to wait. She didn't put STAT read on my ultrasound, so I feel like everyone is going to take their sweet time with it. I have been living with this pain for TWO MONTHS now. I am tired of it, and tired of waiting. Do you all think I should just go to Urgent care or the ER this afternoon/evening? Maybe things would happen quicker then? I am sure they'd be able to do an ultrasound there, right? Maybe expedite the treatment/surgery... I just want to get this ball rolling... please help!! Advice?

Or it could be Kidney Stones...

I was hospitalized with a HUGE one this past January. I started feeling pain in the same area it was before, though not nearly as excruciating, so I'm kind of scared that this diet isn't the right way to go for someone that is prone to Kidney Stones.
