  • I am New- Wanting to Lose Over 100lbs

    Hello All:

My name is Ali and I am new to this forum. I have been reading alot of your posts and finally have decided to join in. I am 37 years old, married and have 3 beautiful children. We live close to Columbus, Ohio and are huge buckeye fans! Well to let you know a little bit of what I want to gain on these forums is how to lose weight and keep it off! I have always been a size 8-10 my whole life until after I had my last two children. Along the way I gained weight for many different reasons and have now been unable to get it off. I have alot of health problems, really too many to lists, which is one reason why the weight will not come off as easy as it used to (also, my age and metabolism not working anymore, does not help!)

I really want to believe in this new way of life and hope to help myself as well as my family members along the way. My oldest daughter needs to lose weight as much as me, so I am hoping that we can find some great receipes to use and continue to stay on a low carb diet.

My question for all of you, is what is or was your most favorite receipes for induction? I have read alot of the receipes and posts and have not found a link that shows what your favorites were. I like many others, get sick of meat and eggs and feel that this will be my downfall. I am not much of an eater to begin with, I just have a slow, almost non-exsistant metabolism. I try to eat lots of salad, as I love it, but am not sure what else to eat. I am not much of a cut up and eat vegetables person, althouth I like veges, I don't find it very filling or satisfying. I guess I really need some suggestions. I am supplying what I ate today to have you critique me to make sure I am doing this right. Any advice or receipes is greatly appreciated! Thank you!

    Breakfast-
One round Jimmy Dean Sausage Patty
1 Cup of Coffee, with Splenda

    Lunch-
Salad, with Lite Italian Dressing (3 Tbs)

    Late Snack-
    10 Pieces of Pepperoni

    Dinner-
Hamburger Patty with Sauteed Mushrooms in butter, 3 strips of bacon and swiss cheese on top

Drinks- 2-3 glasses of water, Diet Rite Soda

Again, It is nice meeting you all and I hope I can become just as successfull as many of you are!

    Take care,
    Ali

Heya Ali and welcome! I'm just south of Lancaster, OH south of columbus so I thought I'd give a shout out since we're so geographically close.

I love to get fish like salmon and crab legs sometimes just for a variety- I just don't get them very often because of the cost of course... it's usually as a "reward" for achieving some goal I set.

I also try a lot of the recipes from here: http://genaw.com/lowcarb/recipes.html

It's a good site for recipe ideas... helped me out a lot during induction boredom. The recipes that are induction friendly are asterixed.

Hope this helps and good luck!

      Hi Hawkeyelinn:

Yes we are right around the corner from one another! It is nice to get to know local people...

Thank you so much for that weblink, it has helped me out tremendously!!! I was getting super frustrated as I could not find a place that had induction receipes and I was trying to think up some of my own without very much success. I am really taking this lifestyle change seriously and want to make sure that I am doing it right!

Have you been on Atkins for awhile? You look great!

        Hey Ali,

Welcome to the ADBB! You have definitely come to the right place for support and encouragement on your weigh-loss journey. I love the website that linn mentioned above. I think my favorite recipe from there is the "Just Like Stuff Mashed Potatoes." They are SO good. I could eat them with every meal.

Also, wanted to take a minute to invite you over to the Century Club forum if you haven't already. It's for those of us with 100 or more pounds to lose. It's a great bunch of people. We have a daily roll call thread to check in with each other. Come join us! Good luck and HAPPY LOSING! I look forward to seeing you around the board.

Re: I am New- Wanting to Lose Over 100lbs

          Welcome to Ali!

About your menu...what are the ingredients in the sausage patty? I'm not sure about Jimmy Dean, but a lot of them use fillers that are either made of dairy or some kind of bread/starch, which are both no-no's. Best to get sausage straight from a butcher as you have a better chance of finding ones that are pure.

How much salad are you eating? Remember that you need 3 cups of veggies per day. And ditch the lite dressing as it is often pumped full of sugar to replace the fat. Go for the full fat ones.

2-3 glasses of water is rather vague...how big are the glasses? We should be drinking at least 64 oz. a day plus more if you have a lot of weight to lose.

If you find yourself not losing weight, you also have a couple of known stallers those being coffee and diet soda. If you have problems, ditch em.

It may just be me, but it seems you may not be eating enough. Try plugging your foods into fitday.com and see how your calories come out. While we aren't really counting calories during induction, you do need to eat enough to prevent your body from enterting starvation mode. You won't lose a pound that way! If you're getting at least 1200, you should be okay.

Hope some of this helps, and I wish you the best of luck on your weight loss journey. If you need anything please feel free to give a shout!

Re: I am New- Wanting to Lose Over 100lbs

Thank you all for your support and help! Liz, I will be sure to jump over the board you suggested. Having a daily roll count is important!!! Jace, thank you for the advice. I am not sure how many calories I had, but it seems like soooo much food. My body is not used to this much food and I have to adapt. Half the time I forget I have to eat something for breakfast or lunch. I am so used to just eating a bigger dinner. I have so many changes I need to make, and it has been very hard so far. I am only on day 2 with atkins, but I have been trying so many different ways of eating lately it has been overwhelming. I will try and make sure to find out how many calories I am eating and also I did look up the link that hawkeyelinn gave me and there was some great receipes I am going to try this week! Thank you all again, I really hope I will lose weight this time!

It's very important to drink a lot of water. I find that if I don't drink the water I don't lose the weight. Keep up the good work!

Hope the recipes help... the induction boredom sure is the pits and it showed me a whole new world of yummy things to eat and good ideas for my own recipes.

I've been off and on this low-carb way of life for many years (mainly maintaining 'on' except for last month due to the chaos of moving, then reinducted earlier this month and got back to exercising again). Now I'm trying to lose the last 10lbs to goal...feel much better now that I've reinducted. I felt awful with all the carbs I ate last month (all my tummy problems and skin problems re-emerged practically over night) and knew what I needed to do so came here and joined with all these friendly people. You might be surprised at how different one feels eating this way.... and if you ever fall off the wagon (as many do) don't fret too much- just get back on as soon as possible, chalk it up as a learning experience and keep going.

Best of luck! You're in good company here. Hope to see you around often!
