  • 1st week complete w/success, but still have questions

    1 week down, 6lbs lost
at 5'7" a fairly muscular male I started at 268lbs
my goal is 160lbs I figure it could take about a year to accomplish.

As a nightshift worker, I was unwilling to give up coffee and understood from Dr. Atkins' book that it could possible lower my blood sugar and cause cravings for sweets.
As a very strong willed individual I was willing to accept that trade-off
I did find one very interesting fact using fitday.com Coffee actually has carbs in it over and above the cream and splenda. That was an eye-opener and I had to adjust the balance of my day accordingly. So far so good!
One question I do have. I'd like to indroduce mayo in to my diet and I'm a bit confused about the labels. All the brands I see in the supermarket claim on the nutrition facts sheet that they don't have carbs/sugars however, every brand shows sugar in the ingredient list. How can I trust mayo when it's right there on the lable - contains sugar.
I've found a ceasar dressing that has no sugar (and a hefty price compared to the normal brands).
I live in Ottawa, Canada. If anyone has a source of truely sugar free mayonase, please post where here.
Oh ya, I've also started walking every day. I read the entire book and see how important exercise is to my overall health.

I haven't been able to find sugar free mayonaise either, so I just found the one with sugar lowest on the ingredients list and accepted it as part of life since I really don't have the time or interest to make my own. I just count the carbs and use it sparingly.

There are some foods that are allowed even with the tad bit of sugar that they contain and Mayo is one of them. Dr A states we can eat liberally pure, natural fat in the form of butter, oil and mayonnaise. It has more benefits to our diet than not. So just check the label and find the lowest numbers
As for salad dressings, as long as they don't list sugar and are below 2 grams of carbs Tablespoon they are induction legal.
Coffee does have carbs but I have never removed it from my diet and while I'm a slow loser, I think my problems is age and metobolism, not the .7 grams in a cup of coffee. I usually count 1 carb for every 10 oz cup and let it go at that. Now one problem is, I also use splenda, 2 packs and cream which all has come carbs so if I have 2 cups of coffee, I have already used 10 carbs for the day. Its a tradeoff

I made my own. It is really easy to make.

I copied this from Valid Rogue who posted this in the "no sweets" challenge thread.

Just an FYI, Duke's mayonnaise is sugar free http://www.dukesmayo.com/products/detail.php?product=4

If you can't get it in your area, you can order it online at http://orders.cfsauer.com/showitemlist.asp?category=37

I ordered from them a while back and bought the individual packets. They are SO CONVENIENT!!! You can carry them with you in your purse...even on airplanes!

I use mayo as a salad dressing frequently.

Thanks Porcelain, I would be interested in making my own, but I'm unable to find the post from Valid Rogue you were reffering to.
Would you be kind enough to copy/paste the url here?

Here is one induction-legal mayo recipe
                http://genaw.com/lowcarb/neanderthin_mayo.html

BTW Linda (who is a member here btw) lists many lowcarb recipes on her website
                http://genaw.com/lowcarb/recipes.html
and she helpfully marks the induction ones with an asterix (*) to help stay legal.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!
