  • Smelly pee..

OK this is a little embarrassing to ask but I started induction Monday 4 days ago and OH BOY my pee smells like dirty old socks sitting in the sun for a week. I’ve been drinking water like crazy; it seems to have eased up a bit. Could it be just all the junk coming out of my body? I was a huge diet coke drinker and stopped that too could it be just all that stuff leaving? I’m a little worried as Ive done the Atkins before but dont remember smelling pee like this.

    Have you been eating asparagus?

, a green vegetable belonging to the lily family, has one notorious side effect for some diners who eat enough of it. Within a half-hour of asparagus consumption, some people notice their urine has acquired a very pungent odor, often compared to rotting cabbage, ammonia or rotten eggs. The effects of asparagus on urine are generally fleeting and harmless, but it's not necessarily the consumer's finest hour, bodily excretion-wise.

Welcome to induction and ketosis!!! It is completely normal for this to occur. You may also notice your breath being not so great for a while. I am just starting my 5th day (this time around) and have the same situation. It will get better, but this just means that you are doing it right.

ha ha!! My pee totally smells after asparagus, too! When I saw the name of the thread I thought "I bet she's eating asparagus!" even before I read the posts! It's so strange to me how it happens! I can have just a tiny bit of asparagus and it still smells!
