  • Encouragement

Hi! My husband and I are now on day 8 of the induction phase. We seem to be following the requirements each day having our veggies and salad along with all the protein we are eating.. but my husband is discouraged b/c he is not seeing a big loss yet. I keep saying please don't give up, give this a chance and that sometimes you see result first in your clothing rather than the scale. I have lost 5 lbs to his fluctuating 1-4lbs, but I don't care if I didn't loose any..I just want him to get to a point where he is happy. Does anyone have any encouraging thoughts to help a spouse or friend who is in disbelief about this program?

Breakfast-hard boiled eggs or brocolli&mozzarella omelot& side sausage
Lunch-cucumbers&mayo..grilled chicken or steak w/franks hot sauce
Dinner-salad with mayo or veggies & grilled chicken, steak or sausage-(no carb or sugar on label.

    Re: Encouragement

First of all, I think step away from the scale until induction is over. Agonising over every ounce during the first two weeks isn't so helpful but stepping on after two weeks can be much better! And take measurements and pictures- I can always see my progress there before I can see any movement on the scale! How much does he have to lose? Also...I hate to say it, but is he cheating with illegal foods when you don't know? Even if he is sticking to the plan 100% he probably just won't see a huge loss like he wants only 8 days in. Atkins is for life and if we could get the results we wanted so quickly it wouldn't even be healthy! The point is to learn how to eat right and lose some weight in the process. He just has to realise that this isn't a quick fix and that he needs to be committed and ready to stick with it for the long term if he is going to ultimately have the body he wants. It is really great of you to help him but if he doesn't want it enough then he won't keep with it. If he is skeptical about the whole WOE then you should head over to the before and after pictures posts! There is NO doubt that it works when you see some of the pictures!!

You also might want to try putting your food into fitday, just to make sure you're not getting any sneaky carbs and that you have your ratio right for induction.

Good luck to both you and your husband! You can do this!

        Re: Encouragement

Tell him to just hang in there. Ask him to tell you honestly if he's eating stuff he's not suppose to. My husband is doing it with me and I pack his lunch and tell him exactly what he can and cannot eat. We're in week 4 now and he's getting better but he still doesn't fully understand the plan. Maybe your husband is eating things he believes are OK. I know from past experience you can't cheat on this WOE because you gain it back very quickly. It sounds like he's bouncing back and forth.

Welcome and congrats for getting your hubby involved. Mine is willing to eat the Low Carb food I prepare, but he still eats BREADED veggies and drinks Gatorade, sigh. One thing I will say is, your body needs water to metabolize your food. If you're eating more sodium (because of processed meats) your body will hold onto the water and even though you may be burning fat, your body still retains the water to process it if you're not drinking enough. Just a free experiement. Drink way more water.

I agree with Amy. Fitday.com will truly give you a clearer picture of where you need to be. Be patient with yourself, your husband and with Fitday.com. These boards are such a great wealth of info and support. Stay in touch.

How cool that you are doing it together. I wish my DH would join me. He needs to lose a bit. I would like to see him a bit healthier. I have hinted but it has to be his choice.

I second the water recommendation. Your husband needs to drink plenty.
And when you guys are ready look into some exercise. Exercising will help metabolism.
