  • Hunger

I am running into a hunger attack about 2 hours or so after my dinner. I have been on the Induction Phase since Friday and I am new to this Atkins diet.

Dinner I ate 8 oz of Pork chop broiled and 1 cup of cooked spinach.
Breakfast I ate 2 boiled eggs and 2 oz of mozzarella cheese
Lunch 9 oz salmon boiled and 1 cup of romaine lettuce and 1 cup of cumcumber with 2 tbsp of grated Parmesan cheese on my salad.

    2 litres of water

Should I be eating a bigger breakfast to subside my hunger in the evening?

I hope somebody can help me out with some good advice.

    Thanks.

It appears that you are not eating enough enough fat. Fat is a necessary part of this woe. You should be getting about 65% of your calories from fat, 30% from protein and 5% from carbohydrate. Try plugging in your food at Fitday
to see what your ratios are. When you begin to add carbs on the carbohydrate ladder your fat percentage will drop as your carbohydrate percentage will rise. Protein should remain at about 30%.

      Re: Hunger

If your truly hungry then have a snack. Sometimes when I'm sitting watching TV I want something to eat but when I really think about it I'm not hungry, just bored. I agree with Deb, your fat intake should be more and that will help with the hunger. If you eat early for dinner there could be to much time until you go to bed. You shouldn't be hungry that means you haven't eaten in awhile so have a snack at night...maybe pepperoni, salami, chicken wings, chicken salad. You just have to think outside the box.

I just plugged in all of my information at Fitday.com and I it came up with these numbers 42% for fat, 53% for protien and 5% for carbs for the total day.

Is it harmful to go over these amounts, I dont mean all the time, but sometimes it may happen.

Things will naturally vary from day to day and that is no harm, but on induction especially you need to make sure you get enough fat - it should be at least 65%, 70% would not be unusual or even a little over that. I still shoot for about 60-65% fat in a typical day.

If you go way over on protein then the protein will be metabolized to glucose in your body, so that can be a prolem. Howeer I don't think you are eating way too much protein, just not enough fat. It's amazing how adding some fat will totally change the proportions. The fat will make you feel fuller and suppress your appetite, at which point you can start to tweak the rest if you need to.

I noticed this morning I increased the cheese from 2 oz to 3 oz for breakfast and it made a big difference. This morning I feel fuller and content big difference from yesterday's breakfast with just 2 ozs of cheese. I guess an oz really makes a difference to keeping you full.

There is a good sticky thread on this forum about increasing your fat which you might find useful

Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
