    Re: Meat

what I often do is use fitday as a tool to help adjust my percentages.
I can enter the meal I am intending to have and alter the amounts to see what effect this has on the percentages. As Kate said, it doesnt take a huge dollop of fat to swing things in the right direction! Usually adding a little butter, cream or mayo does the trick.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

      Re: Meat

In addition to what Kate wrote, some foods are naturally high in fat. For example, a whole egg is about 75% fat by calories. Eat an omelette made with a whole egg, veggies and cheese, that meal will be high fat (at least over 50%)

Atkins isn't a hgh protein diet, contrary to what people think. It's high fat. Dr. Atkins wrote if you eat excessive amounts of protein, that excess will be converted to glucose which will be stored as glycogen and body fat. So it does you no weight loss favor to get 50% of your calories from fat.

The other thing I'm seeing more and more in magazines is the misconception that protein takes more energy to digest than fat or carbs so it's better to eat high protein. That's not very true for fats. Fats go through a 2 step digestion process, so it costs your body more energy to digest a gram of fat than a gram of protein.

        Re: Meat

        Thanks for all your replies.

I also am currently using fitday.com and just started planning my meals ahead of time and playing around with the numbers, etc. to get an idea. I am slowly figuring this all out.

If you eat meals that have the foods that induction says you should be having, eat to appetite, and use fat in cooking and as a seasoning on veg or as mayo or whatever, it should sort of work out without becoming obsessed with percentages. It takes only a little fat to make the percentage change, just enough to make you meal tasty really.
I am eating all the foods in the Induction and following them to the letter. My mind was just geared to a low fat diet as opposed to a HIGH fat diet, so that is why I was paranoid I guess and was afraid to use butter, etc. because on other diets you are not allowed whole lot of fat content. So just getting used to this HIGH fat diet.

I just like to ask questions and be 100% sure.

          Re: Meat

It is hard to get your head wrapped around eating foods that were previously off-limits---I think the majority of us were eating low fat at some point in our lives.

But that high fat concept is what attracted me to Atkins: being able to eat tabboo foods like whole eggs (rather than egg whites), eating full fat cheeses (instead of non-fat or reduced fat), eating real bacon (rather than turkey bacon), using real cream instead of an artificial non-dairy creamer or topping. All of this while losing weight.

              Re: Meat

If by stock you mean the liquid made from boiling or simmering meat/chicken/fish in water then straining out the flesh and any bones, then it is allowed.
Commercial stock may have other stuff in it so you need to check the label for any hidden sugars/starches
