Sorry you didn't like the jicama...where did you get it? They can be not so good if you get ones that are soured (Fresh Market on Henderson has some jicama this week that LOOK good, but they taste RANK!) I bought one at an ethnic store the other day and it was all dried up and nasty when I cut it open.
Most of the time I like to go to the weekend produce markets on Hillsborough Avenue just east of FunLand drive-in, on the right hand side. You can get amazing produce there.
Look for jicama that is FIRM when you touch it. You don't want it to have a spongey feel AT ALL. There should be no/little damage to the brown skin, no mold. If they are wet looking, those are sour. You don't want those.
Anyway, even if jicama isn't your thing, there are TONS of other veggies that you should continue to try. You might find some that you really like, but knew nothing about.
