  • Egg yolks per day, bacon, Hamburger patties,Tomatoes, Spinach,

    Hi.
I am restarting atkins again after having some binges.
    I have some questions.
I am obssessed with eggs these days. I have been eating about 4 a day. I also love tuna these days.
I was eating the yolk, silly me.
If I eat just 1 egg yolk per day is that okay? Or is that too much?
Also, I was eating 2 pieces of bacon everyday.
I decided to quit a week ago, but thinking about buying some again.
What do you think about bacon? Maybe 4 pieces per week?
    I am worried about cholesterol.
Do most hamburger patties have much carbs? There is no nutritional information on the ones here in Korea that I found.
What about tomatoes? I am a little worried. I really like tuna melts with tomato and cheese.
What about spinach? I am confused about how many pieces I can have boiled. Maybe 6 pieces boiled??
Thanks so much if you know the answers.

Here's a link to the Induction Acceptable Foods List:
    http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...ead.php?t=6781

It includes the amounts of foods you may eat. As for eggs and bacon, you may eat them "liberally". That is they are okay to eat---but you may not gorge yourself on them.

Here is also the link to the Rules of Induction:

Re: Egg yolks per day, bacon, Hamburger patties,Tomatoes, Spinach,

I eat anywhere between 2-6 eggs per day every day. Egg Yolk and white. I eat ground beef quite often as well as other forms of red meat. I eat pork anc chicken skin/fat liberally. My cholesterol is very very very good and continues to improve every time I have it tested, even liberally eating butter, mayonnaise, eggs and red meat!!! It's NOT the fat (esp saturated fat) that has been causing the cholesterol problems but the combination of carbohydrate and fats of ANY kind! IMO after reading what Dr. Atkins and Gary Taubes and many many others have been saying all along!

I don't see one single thing in your list of foods that is wrong, except I would eat MORE of those items. AND I would explore the list of acceptable foods and eat a bunch of those, within the rules of induction.

Just be careful of the hamburger patties. Lots of times they add bread/carb filler. You would be better off buying just the meat and making your own.

Re: Egg yolks per day, bacon, Hamburger patties,Tomatoes, Spinach,

I have read the rules, etc. I was just wondering exactly.
I think maybe half a tomato is safe at a sitting.
If say I boiled 6 pieces of spinach how many net carbs would it have?
Well that is great news about eggs. I just love the yolk. How long does it take for your cholesterol to improve usually. I have no idea how mine is at the moment.
Yeah, I am gonna stay away from those hamburgers. I am gonna try to find some with nutritional info.
Yeah, I actually don't just eat these things. I eat a variety of all the veggies, meat.. etc. on the acceptable list ..well at least what I can find here in Korea.
Thank you so much for your reply.

You have to measure those vegetables. Tomatoes are on the "other vegetable list" which limits them to 1 cup per day. Spinach is on that list too.

Re: Egg yolks per day, bacon, Hamburger patties,Tomatoes, Spinach,

As Megs said, you do need to measure the veg, as depending on the size of the spinach leaves you would fit more or less of them into one cup.
If you are not used to the US way of measuring things like veg then you could always weigh them instead.
There is a good thread at the top of this forum called something like 'weight of cups of vegetables in grams' where one of our members (soliwit) compiled a long list of what one cup and fractions of one cup of all the induction-legal vegetables weighs.
Much easier for those of us outside the USA who are used to weighing food for recipes etc.

Also make sure that you measure or weigh the spinach before boiling it as it shrinks alarmingly once cooked. Dr Atkins told us to measure all veggeis before cooking them.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Thanks alot for the great advice.
I have started measuring all my veggies for the day in the morning and devided them up for my meals. I think I finally got it all figured out.

Re: Egg yolks per day, bacon, Hamburger patties,Tomatoes, Spinach,

                    Hi there,
I am Canadian and my husband is Korean. We are possibly moving to Canada in September. Where do you live in Canada? Where does you mom live?
I have always loved Korean food but I don't even think about it anymore. When I have any thoughts of other kinds of foods than Atkins ofcourse being an ex-carb addict, I think about icecream, cookies, pie, bread..etc.
I am actually the worst cook in the world so I haven't even tried to make a korean induction recipe. I am just keeping my food as simple as possible for my induction phase. I wanna do it right this time.
You are in induction too! Great. How's it going? I hope you have a lot of success.

It's called Gogi Jeon but I varied the recipe

1 pound of lean ground beef, pork or chicken
mixed with 1 tablespoons soy sauce, 1 teaspoon of sesame oil, pinch of fresh ginger (finely chopped) two cloves of garlic chopped finely , 1/4 onion finely chopped. Let marinade a bit for 1 hour or so if you can (it tastes better) and pinch salt pepper each to taste . Add one beaten egg to the mixture. mix well and dollop one table spoon on frying pan with 1 tbsp vegetable oil at medium heat and flatten to make a 1 inch pancake.
(make one and taste before making whole batch)
