  • Why if you're in ketosis is the scale not moving??

    Hello everyone- I'm new here!

I've been on Atkins for 1 week now- and have used the ketosis strips which tell me I'm in ketosis and have the signs of it too- my breath is bad and the hunger pangs have gone away.

So I weighed myself this morning after 1 week and lost only 3 pounds. I was just a little dissapointed b/c I thought you lose a lot more on Induction. Granted I have another week to go- but just thought the first week would be better.

Any ideas as to why I'm in ketosis but doesn't show it on the scale?

    Thanks so much!!!

How much do you want to lose total? There are other factors that affect how much one will lose on induction. Metabolic resistance, medications etc. Is this your first time on induction or have you done it before? Actually 3 pounds is not bad for the first week of induction. I had about 50 pounds to lose and lost 6 during 2 weeks of induction which is pretty normal.

    Wishing you the best.

Thank you for the response and encoruagement!!

I have done Atkins before and lost more the first week which is why I thought I would now. And I've been very strict on Induction- not eating anything not allowed.

My stats- I'm 5'8 and started at 163- today 160. My goal weight is 135. The only medication I'm on is Yasmin birth control.

        Hi Avabelle
As Deb said - 3 pounds is not bad for one week's loss.
Particularly as you have a total of 28 pounds in total to lose. An 'average' loss on induction for the 2 weeks is around 5%-10% of the total you have to lose, which for you would mean a loss of 1.4-2.8 pounds is 'normal' and you ahve already lost more than that in half the time

Some birth control pills do have the effect of hindering weightloss in some people too, which might be affecting you here.

At 163 pounds and 5'8" you are not far from a healthy weight already and probably have a BMI of under 25 (the top range for being healthy) so it might be that your body will not let you get down to your hopedfor goal without a struggle
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Welcome. 3 pounds of weight lose is awesome. You are heading in the direction you wish, which is down. Stay with it and let us know where you stand at the end of induction. Till then keep up the good work. God Bless, Joe

            Hi Elizellen!

Thank you so much for your response! And thank for helping me figure out the average and %- this helped me feel much better when I read that I'm losing what's normal for my body.

You are right- doing different diets and such it's always been a struggle to get past where I am at right now- that's why I'm doing Atkins b/c I think it's the only way to break through
