  • Is it possible....

....to do the Induction TOO LONG ? I mean I have read of individual doing a "extended induction". It seems to me that a large potion of weight loss occurs during the induction (please correct me if I am wrong).

Is there a limit to how long you can do the Induction ?

Dr. ATkins wrote that Induction can be done safely as long as 6 months. And he also wrote that the only people who may benefit from extending their Induction past the initial 14 day period are those people who have a high metabolic resistance to weight loss (as defined in the charts in the book.) Because for these people, Induction might correct some of the metabolic imbalances causing their resistance to weight loss. Furthermore, the majority of us have low to average metabolic resistance to weight loss, so the majority of us don't need to stay on Induction longer than 14 days.

Based on the collective experience of this board, there is some truth in that. The folks who do not have a high metabolic resistance and who decide to extend their Induction eventually stall. That stall is usually broken by moving to On-Going Weight Loss phase (like they should have on Day 15.)

IF you do the Diet the way Dr. Atkins said to do it, the majority of your weight loss occurs during the On-Going Weight Loss phase or OWL phase.
