  • Confusion over contradictions in quantities.

I hope this hasn't been asked before, I couldn't find a similar post.

I have what I presume is the UK version of the Dr Atkins' New Diet Revolution (2002) and on page 123 under the third rule of induction it says you can eat approx 250 g of salad or 170 g of salad plus 80 g of other vegetables. Then when I refer to the list of acceptable foods a couple of pages later it says that you can have 230-340 g of salad and under the heading 'other vegetables' it says you can have 140-200g of these if you do not exeed 230g of salad.

This is rather confusing and I would greatly appreciate it if anyone could shed some light on the matter.

    Thanks!

The quantity of vegetables is no more than 3 cups total per day.

I don't have the book in front of me, but the vegetables are split into 2 parts. The starchier ones only allowed 1 cup per day, the other ones are 2 cups to 3.

This list should help with measurements.

If you go to the stickies in this forum you will find a whole wealth of dos and don'ts.

I'm sure other people will chime in pretty soon.

I think that when the UK version was edited someone thought they would get rid of the 'cup' thing (which is alien to anyone outside the USA) and convert it to ounces that we are more used to.

No-one knows where they got their numbers from as their gram measurements bear little resemblence to the real numbers as are detailed in Soliwit's post that Moretta gave the link to for knowing how many grams one cup of each of the induction veggies weighs.

So take no notice of the weights given in the UK version of DANDR and stick to having 2 cups from the salad veg list plus one from the 'other' list or 3 cups from the salad list, and get the weights from the thread with the cup/grams measurements in.

If you find this confusing and too much like hard work you can always buy a set of measuring cups to use instead which are on sale at most large supermarkets as well as most 'cook shop' outlets.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!
