  • Induction you are not alone.

    Hi All,

    It is 04/20/08
I am on day 10 of induction and came to these boards for some support.
I started at 188.5 pounds and I am at 180.5 today.
I was surprised that the posts on here are so old 2005! also I really do not get what this boards is for? all I have read is messages about "If you are not doing the real Atkins get off the board" and "If you are doing Atkins for longer than 14 days move to another board".
I would like to say to all the new people who are coming to this board that you are not alone.
If you are getting splitting blinding headaches, your not alone.
If you you get up and can only get three bites of breakfast (eggs) and you feel like you want to throw up, you are not alone.
If you calf muscles are killing you and to walk 100 feet makes you want to cry, you are note alone.
If you haven't gone number 2 in five days even though you have drunk enough water to douse a small house fire, you are not alone.

I have found planning ahead and taking food to work for snacks, lunch and yes dinner because sudden overtime is not going to jeopardize my plan.
Stretching every hour or so helps with the calf pains. Detoxing from caffenine and Atkins is hard. I have switched to dinner leftovers instead of eggs for breakfast so I to not get the throw up responce in the morning. I had to take a laxative pill. Natural stuff did nothing.

I hope this info helps other induction members.

Congratulations on those 8 pounds lost already :clapping

There are some posts even older as the board does not 'cull' old messages but leaves them on show in case they are of interest to new members! also some new people read old posts and want to comment on them thus bringing them to the top of a forum, which is fine by us!!

This surprises me as I dont recall any such messages - I think you are exaggerating or misreading posts!!

As you will see from many posts here, many of our members experience the same problems as you have One of the main reasons for this forum is the reassurance we all get from seeing we are not alone.

BTW I have never eaten eggs for breakfast except sometimes as an ingredient in something like a quiche. There is no rule in DANDR to say you have to ever eat eggs on their own!!

At last after some negativity you have posted positively!!
It is good to see that you are doing some of the things that we are always advising new members and sharing them with others on induction, well done

Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

      Hi, Fennela

Welcome to the ADBB family. Congrats on your 8 pound loss - awesome!

About what this board is for - we are a group of people who follow the 2002 version of Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (DANDR for short). The reason that we follow that book is because it was the last one written by Dr. Atkins, himself, before his death. The information put out since his death by the company has some fundamental differences from the plan outlined by Dr. A himself. They are more geared toward promoting their convenience products, such as bars and shakes.

While we may practice a bit of tough love at times, I am certain that we would not say the things that you have mentioned above. And about the posts being old - well, we do have posts that go back years, but the overwhelming majority of them are new. Here are a few links to help you navigate... the first one is to a site that a lot of us use for recipes, and the others are to popular places around the board.

Try taking some potassium for the muscle cramps. Works beautifully for me.

I really enjoy reading all the old posts, information is useful no matter how old it is (though sometimes I click on names to see new posts and those people are long gone, which makes me wonder how they're doing).
        cheers,

Re: Induction you are not alone.

Welcome! Some of the forums are very active. Others, not so much. We have different forums for people on induction, extended induction, OWL (ongoing weight loss) and pre-maintenance and maintenance--that's so people in the different phases are grouped together to prevent you from going all over the board trying to get your answers. Nobody has to leave a forum, but won't get much usable advice about pre-maintenance in the induction forum. You are more than welcome to visit those previous forums to give help to the newer members. A lot of us hang around the lower phase forums to give back and remind ourself of the basics.

We also have many forums for people that have different challenges so they will feel more at home. We have second time around club (STAC) for obvious reasons. We have the century club for those who need to lose 100 pounds or more. A person that only needs to lose 20 pounds doesn't have much in common with those that need to lose 100 or more pounds. We have many forums about different health challenges, plus a women's and men's forum where you can post freely about those concerns as they relate to your gender. We girls are always wondering what they are talking about over on the boy's only forum?!?!

Many of these forums have a roll call every day and there are many ongoing threads for support. Then there are the challenges. You should join some. Although there are a few old threads still brought up, most of them are brand new every day or at least updated.

This bulletin board does stick closely to Dr. Atkins real program, using the 2002 edition as our guide book. I don't know anything about anyone being told to leave the board for not doing true Atkins, though. We do encourage everyone to follow the plan for health reasons. Dr. Atkins put close to 40 years into this program so people could not only lose some weight, but improve their health for the rest of their life. Everyone on here who has lost and kept it off, thereby improving their health, has followed the plan by the book. If we think someone is hurting their health by eating poorly, if they ask for advice, they will get tough love from those of us that care about their health. If they want to know why they are not losing or can't get into ketosis, we ask what they have been eating and drinking and if it's not on plan, we tell them the reason--they are not following the plan. Simple facts.

I have been on several boards, one I paid dearly for, but on this one I have found support and I have found family. It doesn't get any better than ADBB if you are serious about doing Atkins and getting results. (Can anyone else hear glory, glory hallelujah ...playing in the background? )

People who say it can't be done, should not interrupt those doing it.

Re: Induction you are not alone.

            Hi,

Congrats on your weightloss, 8 pounds is great!!!

From what I have seen and I have been here maybe a couple of days, there has been nothing but unconditional support and acceptance. I haven't really felt that anything was said with a negative intent.

As for the leg cramps, I know from doing Atkins before that I would get them on day3 at night and I didn't have any extra calcium or magnesium around so yes, it hurt to sleep at night, the next day I woke up feeling as if I had pregnancy morning sickness, and even felt a little tired, but as days go by, it gets better and better!!!

I even posted here about starting that time of the month with induction, wrote about slip-ups I hadn't noticed and everyone has been really supportive!

I am so glad to have you here doing inductions with us. let's keep on going strong!!!!
