Re: Is using green onions better than yellow onions

I think 'green onions' are the same as what we call 'spring onions' this side of the pond

If so one cup of chopped green onions has 7 grams of carbohydrates including 3 grams of fibre according to www.fitday.com making a net carb count of 4.

I m not sure what 'yellow onions' are as I haven't heard of them over here. but if they are more like this

Then according to www.fitday.com 'mature onions' have 14 total carbs including 3 grams fibre, making 11 net carbs per cup, so though allowed on induction most people would use them only in small amounts.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

We call them scallions here. They are much lower in carbs. I'm so glad you asked, because I love them. Thank you Elizellen!

          Hello,
They have a much lower GI (glycemic index) than yellow onions. Leeks are a better choice as well. Dr. A talks about the GI on page 78-84 DANDR. It's a great tool that I use.
www.glycemicindex.com to learn more about it.
