  • ugh!

feeling discouraged. I've been eating a perfect 65/30/5 ratio for a week...before that i did a two week "non-perfect induction" so I've been on atkins for three weeks. I lost ten pounds and got down to 164 as of saturday. I didn't have a chance to weight myself sunday, but I've been following the program perfectly and running daily. I stepped on yesterday and it read 167.5!

I thought maybe I had quite a bit of sodium the day before or something, that i was retaining water. So i drank a lot of water yesterday and worked out and today I weighed in at 166.5...?

why the weight gain? I know fluctuations are perfectly normal in the diet, and i really should weigh myself just once a week so i don't agonize when the scale goes up a little. but when it goes up a lot for more than one day, i get frusterated!

    anyway, just venting...

I record my weight daily with a digital scale and it seems to go up 2-3 lbs in between whooshies where it will drop below my last lowest weight. Its just the body resetting its self.Keep up the positive work and don't stress also you may be up to hit a plateau for a week or so after loosing 10-15lbs so be aware of that too.Be patient.

Please define "non-perfect induction". Maybe it's not wise to count your two weeks of "non-perfect". Was it just that you had a diet soda, or did you have a bowl of ice cream every night?

If you've been on real induction for only a week and have lost 8 or 10 pounds, that is good.

i lost the 10 pounds during the "non-perfect" weeks. When i say non-perfect, i mean i wasn't measuring everything to make sure i got the right ratios of fat/carbs/protein, and i had diet coke and almonds.

the past week i've done induction perfectly and gained .5

i think you're right. usually I plateau for a couple days, go up two pounds, then drop 4.

I really should start looking forward to the couple pound gains, because if i'm doing everything right, they're almost always before a drop.

              thanks

                Re: ugh!

Sorry, but nuts are on one of the higher rungs of the ladder and a no-no on induction. That could explain the gain. There is also a great thread floating around here somewhere talking about how weight loss is not linear. It truly can go up and down. If you let it, it will mess with your head and end up being rather frustrating. My suggestion is that you eat 100% clean and let the diet do the work. Keep at it, it is worth the effort!

                  Re: ugh!

I would also like to add that perhaps if TOM is around the corner, that could be causing it as well.

And another thing, I had too much sodium one day and it took almost 3 days to flush it out. The scale DID go down a little the second day..just keep it up, do induction to a T and it will ALL fall into place, I promise.

                    Re: ugh!

I've heard of a lot worse slip ups on Induction than almonds and diet coke! You're on the right track, and you've made the adjustments, and that's the most important thing!

From what I've read on the forum, it's not unusual to slow down the third and fourth week on Atkins. Half a pound is just a blip on the scale, and I'm betting at the end of the second week of (clean) induction, it'll be gone.

Please keep us posted, because we're all in your corner!

                      Re: ugh!

So good news, I got back on track and my weight went back down. I am now at 161, and exactly 1 month into my restart.

This is what i was doing wrong...well sort of....I was eating my 65/30/5 ratio, and I was basing it on my 13-15 carbs of vegitables a day, which meant a lot of vegitables, and consequently tons of protein and fat. I'm simply not used to eating that much food. I should be though, because I counted and its only about 1600 calories. Then I counted how much I'm used to and it's about 1100.

So obviously I've driven my metabolism down over the years, eating only 1100 calories. So I stepped back and based my diet on 10-13 carbs from vegitables, and I started losing again. I'm going to try and gradually add more, as I should be eating more than I do, especially to raise my metabolism and fuel my workouts.

                      Thanks for everyones support!
