  • A Stall Discouraged Me And I Failed

I started Atkins 2 weeks ago and lost close to 10 lbs. Then I blew it after getting discouraged on a stall when I didn't see any weight or inch loss for a few days in a row. What's worse is that I regained almost all of the lost weight with the exception of 4 lbs.

I got my act together and decided to try again. Now I'm on day 2 and I have already lost 2 lbs. I am a worry wort by nature and I'm already dreading the next time I encounter a stall. It is my hope I can be strong, hang in there and overcome. I did away with diet drinks and splenda, which I suspect caused the stall. I feel like such a failure.

Yes, I am exercising on an exercise bike with handles that move back and forth. I do that every other day for 45 minutes which usually burns 350 calories according to the digital readout.

You need to expect stalls if you are going to be committed to this way of eating for life. I have many weeks when I see no losses. You will come up against a hundred reasons why you think you should cheat so mentally prepare yourself and know that when you eat off plan you are not helping your body to lose weight. You are yo-yo dieting and that will hurt even more. Keep at it and the results will come, even if they are not as fast or consistent as you want.

Dr. ATkins defined a weight loss plateau (stall) as 4 consecutive weeks without loss of weight or inches. So not losing for a fewdays isn't a stall. REad the sticky above about "Weight Loss isn't Linear".

Don't weigh yourself too often. And when you do and you see you've stalled, don't worry about it. Remember you're still heading in the right direction. I haven't seen any weight loss in about 4 days and keep weighing myself, but I'm not worried about it.
            My Stats:

Original start date: April 18, 2008

            Restart date: April 15, 2009

            Starting weight 151 pounds

            Goal - 125

            Current - 147

you know 2 weeks is not really enough time to have a stall. My scale is not digital and sometimes I can't tell for several days if I have lost cause the little lines are so tiny. Only on the 5 and 10 pound marks can I measure somewnhat accurately. And I know there are some days it just doesn't move at atll.

And you didn't fail cause you are still here. Failing would be quitting and walking away. You can do it!

Dont get discouraged. Stay strong and positive. Once you commit yourself totally, you'll do fine. So what, you slipped and fell. Now get yourself up and shake off the dirt and gop for it again. Have faith, you can do it. Keep us updated. God Bless, Joe

I guess I've proven myself to be impatient. I thank all of you for your thoughts. I will do it this time. I am here now and with all of this support, how can I fail?! I feel much better. Thanks again!

A stall is when you do not lose weight or any inches for at least 4 weeks. The only advice I have is to throw away your scale. If it's caused you to become discouraged, you're better off without it.

                    Welcome back!

We're human. We all make mistakes. The main thing is to do your best to pick up the pieces and continue on your journey. I agree with DogAteMyName, if you scale is causing you to get discouraged and to fail with cheats then get rid of it. You don't need to know a number to know that you are losing weight. Your clothes will speak for themselves. Stay strong!!!!
