  • Counting carbs,Help Pleasse!!

    Hi there everyone!
This is my 6th day on Induction, feeling great and actually loving ths diet. This diet beats all the other Low Fat diets out there.

One thing i really need help with if someone can spare the time is Counting Carbs!

Since i started Induction 6 days ago, i did not count Carbs but i do know my body in Ketosis, also know i was nowhere near the 20g limit;well under!

Does anyone think i should count the carbs? I understand this will be easier as i go into OWL!!

I am a single parent who works, and all duties of parenting,is there an easy way count carbs or any advice regarding this please.

One more question, honestly lol....I am thinking of doing a Extended induction....what is the benefits of this and why do people do this, thinking of doing it and counting carbs stictly then onto OWL!

    Hope this makes sense.
    Thanks again
    Danielle

Hi Danielle. I'm not a single parent and even then it's overwhelming some times. I hear you on the counting carbs and so forth. If this is the very first time you do this, I would highly suggest you at least find the carbs to your favorite everyday foods. There is a carb counter in the back of the book. This will help you at least get a better picture. I would tell you to go to FITDAY.com, but I know you said you're short on time.

Try that and it'll get easier. It all takes time.

I would definitly count your carbs because it is very important to make sure you are getting at least 15 of your daily carbs from veggies and often you will be amazed what that allows you to eat. It doesn't have to be a formal way of counting just a peice of paper on the counter to jot things down as your day goes by or even on a deposit slip in the back of your check book. I am a full time mom of four and have an infant that I do childcare for daily so I totally get what being so busy you don't even have time to count means. Try for just a week or so to count your carbs and record them ... after that it will become almost routine for you and you will only need to count every couple days to be sure your staying on track ........ Congrats on your decision to get into the Atkins WOE!

Thanks a lot for that replies!
I am going to start counting my carbs as from tommorow, yes i will leave a notepad on the kitchen counter, everytime i make something to eat for myself i will jot it down.Excellent point.

Tommorow will be 1 week in, tempted to take a peak at scales, even if nothing i swear i am not giving up, noway! Got 21lbs to get rid of or even 14lbs would be nice.
        Thanks so much

As the others have said, Danielle, it will make your Atkins journey more easy if you can count your carbs, otherwise you will not know at what level you can eat and lose or maintain weight as you progress down the scales.

AS to whether to do induction past the 14 day mark it will depend on many things.
First of all will be how much weight in total you need to lose.

Dr Atkins suggested that those with more than 50 pounds to lose might consider staying on Atkins for longer but he gave us several reasons for moving on too. Take a look at Chapter 13 of DANDR which mentions the pros and cons of extending induction before you decide.

Many of our members with lots more than 50 pounds to lose did start up the OWL ladder soon after 2 weeks on induction and found their weightlosses continued at the same or a quicker rate and the wider food choices made it easier for them to stay with the plan.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!
