  • 15th day of induction

I am just starting the 15th day of induction and am considering sticking with it another two weeks. Here is how it went for me:

Started: 250 lbs, 47" inch waist
    Ended: 236.5 LBS, 43.25" waist

No major issues except a little brain fog and hunger at around 3:00 PM every day.

My waist measurement is far behind (moving slower) than my chest, legs, and rear. How do I know that....my cloths are baggier than they have been in awhile and I had to tighten down the side buckels on my BDU pants at my Air Force drill this weekend and I am losing my little second chin.

I have to be down to between 38 and 39.5 inches on my waist tape by the second week in June, thus my consideration for another couple of weeks in induction. (Ideally, it would be nice to be down to 36", but I know that is really unrealistic)

Is it safe to stay in induction over the two weeks? Will I continue at this pace of loss? I know that I may go through periods of time where I wont loose anything, but generally speaking, I would hope it realistic to reach my waist measurement goal in 6 weeks. I am not so worried about weight as I am the bottom line measurements. I know that as I loose fat and gain some muscle, weight loss will slow.

    Thanks for any ideas!

    Congrats on your loss!

According to the book Induction is safe for 6 months. However, the book also states that people who do not have a high metabolic resistance to weight loss have no additional benefits of continuing Induction beyond the forst 2 weeks. We have noticed on ADBB that this is true--the folks who have an average to low metabolic resistance to weight loss hit a stall if they extend their Induction too long and it's only broken when they move to OWL phase, as recommended in the book.

There is no guarantee that your rate of loss will continue at its present speed. Some people experience a "post Induction stall" during the 3rd to 6th week of the Diet. Dr. Atkins explained this on one of his videos as your body equalizing itself.

By the way, a 20 pound weight loss as you experienced is not considered "average" metabolic resistance to weight loss. Indeed, you have low (very low) metabolic resistance to weight loss based on your numbers.

It is safe to stay on induction, generally people who have large amounts of weight tend to stay on a little longer. With that said, while you should continue to lose weight (everyone is different), it will most likeyly not be at the rate you lost for the first two weeks. In regards to your goals, you may get there within 6 weeks, but I have to admit that you have set a pretty tough goal, but truly everyone is different.

Your most important things will be eating proper, exercise and water. Good luck.

        1-Atkins WOE/WOL plan works
2-I need to always work on the behaviors and triggers that make me over eat.
3-Atkins WOL is part of the puzzle, but is not the entire thing.

Wow! Congrats on your weight loss. I hope it goes that well for me by the end of Induction.
