  • Lost count of Days but past Induction14

I started exercising last week, every day with jazzercise and completely lost count of the induction days, but I am actually on my 19th day. I have no idea how much I lost cause by my scale I lost 10 pounds the first week and then nothing. Except that it started bouncing up and down. But I knew I was losing because you can see it in my cheeks. I weighed in at the Jazercise center and their scale had me a couple pounds higher then I thought I should be, but as of this morning I have definitely lost at least 5 pounds since last Wednesday.

So for those of you who are worried about the scale, keep in mind it might be an imperfect scale too. A lot of them are not very accurate.! I'll still be around because as long as I am losing this well and not feeling deprived, I'm going to do kind of a modified induction. Staying within 20 carbs but occassionally adding in some of the OWL rung foods.

We call that here a 'modified OWL' and it means you cna test how the owl foods affect you and instead of adding carbs, swap them out, so you stay at low carb levels.

I would suggest first adding more veg to get your net carbs to something like 30 then swapping out to try the other rungs in order.

We are supposed to eat at least the induction quantities of veg all our Atkins life, not drop them in favour of nuts/fruit etc
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

Elizellen, thanks for the suggestion. That is pretty much what I plan to do, but in all honesty, the recommended induction level vegetable carbs don't come anywhere near to 20 carbs. Ex. 2 cups of mixed salad greens and I cup of cooked brocolli are only 4 net carbs per fit day. So even with a little cheese, cream, etc. I am usually way under the allowed carbs. Thats why I figure I can stay close to 20 and still try the Owl rungs one at a time. If I go to 25 or 30 on any particular day, especially when I can add a little fruit, though I will not be obsessed about it.

You could always nix the salad greens and instead choose something like chopped red and yellow peppers (7 net carbs per cup) or jicama (5 net carbs per cup)!

If your usual induction veg amounted to 4 net carbs, then your total net carbs should have been something like 6 or 7 on induction (going on the instructions to have 'most' of our carbs from our veg) so for the veg rung you would aim for 11 (6 + 5 veg added), dairy rung 16, nuts/seeds rung 21, berries rung 26 and so on.

By chopping and changing what you add rather than following the owl rungs and adding them in order you risk never finding out what your CCLL is.

I will try your suggestion Elizellen. I have a feeling though that I am one of those resistent people who cn never go too much above 20-25 and still lose, so as I go up the rungs, I might never reach the top unless I chop them a little . In the past, I have always lost weight really fast for about 1 week (I'm sure mostly fluid). I stuck on Atkins for 3 years one time and lost 40 pounds did the whole Owl and all. I was able to keep form gaining but never kept losing. Most of the loss was in the first 3-6 months. But I didn't excercise then so I am doing that vigorously now and hope it will make all the difference. If not I will have to tweak the rungs a bit.
