i was told it was bad to be in dark purple for so long ive been there for almost 8 days now is that bad i thought it was good and if it is bad what should i do

I've heard that also. Keep in mind they are not reliable.
What I've seen posted in the past was if they were dark purple, you may be burning the fat you are eating OR you are dehydrated.....

As far as Ketone strips go... I have found from personal exp. that it depends greatly on the brand as each one has a different color scale of how to tell. Ketone strips are really used just to tell you yes/no if you are in ketosis. Some people such as diabetics will need to use them for medical necessity in case somethign comes up out of the ordinary. For those of us without diabetes the strips "really" are not necessary. Some people, myself included, need the extra visual that I am doing it right.
The ones I use say deep purple just means there are ALOT of ketones present. A true testing should be done roughly in the afternoon or evening after you have had something to eat. If you do it when you have had nothing to eat such as first thing in the morning obviously the urine will be concentrated from not going for the whole time you were sleeping.
Honestly, if you are drinking at least 8-8oz glasses of water a day = 64oz and following the diet your going to be in ketosis. With the strips once you reach 50 net carbs or higher is when they stop telling you your in it even though you still will be.

Are you exercising? I think exercising decreases the amount of ketones in your system. There's a good thread in the FAQ about the strips. You should check it out.

I would just make sure you're drinking enough. The recommended amount is 64 ounces and another 8 ounces for every 10 pounds you are overweight. If you're doing that, I wouldn't worry. Sometimes my sticks are dark purple and I know for a fact I'm drinking more water than any human needs. I just enjoy water I suppose.

I have been reading about the strips. You are o.k. to stay in the purple as long as you know you have been having enough water, and it sounds like you have been.
It took me three days to get mine to work and i am still in the light colors.
