  • I lost 8 pounds on Induction!!!

I lost 8 pounds on induction as of today!!! And I ate Ribeye out at a restaurant last night...hehe how awesome is that??? I went to Cattle Company and skipped the bread, ate my salad with blue cheese, ordered Ribeye steak with steamed veggies and grilled asparagus. This WOE is the greatest!! Now....the big question...

Since I am known for my metabolic weight loss resistance (due to pcos & systemic candidiosis) and the fact that I have over 100 pounds of weight to lose...Should I stay on induction longer?? I am doing the veggie challenge right now and Loving it...however I am not yet as active as I should be. I have been so busy and I need to get doctors permission since my knee is acting up a bit... ....(excuses, I know... need to kick myself in the butt)

Anyhow, any idea's or opinions out there???
    Thanks
    ~Sonya~

Re: I lost 8 pounds on Induction!!!

    hi,

I'm close to the same weight and height, but a little older, with 2 very bad knees. Never checked for pcos, but my daughter was just diagnosed with it and I have some of the same symptoms. So when I read your post I really identified. I have always lost well on any eating plan for a week or two and then just bounced up and down. This time I did it different. I have started doing jazzercise 5 days a week an hour a day.

I never thought I could do something like that with my knees, but after trying it I found out they adapt to any activity level. I do wear a hinged knee brace on one of the knees when doing the exercising. It has made all the difference in the world. I am still losing pounds very slow, but I am definitely losing inches. I have only been doing it for 2.5 weeks and have gone down two pants sizes.

I think any program that you can adapt to your specific needs will work. On days I can't get to jazzercise I am using a Zumbo tape. I can't do the jumping and skipping type moves but I just walk or march at those times and I am still getting the benefit.
Good luck to you. In his 1992 book, Atkins said if you have hands and feet there is no valid excuse not to exerrcise regardless of age or disability level.
Now tha I see the results, I wholeheartedly agree!

Alaskansonya, congrats on your 8 pound weight loss ! Some people continue to lose on extended induction and others stall out until they move to OWL. My goal was to lose 101 pounds when I started. I tried to stay on extended induction, but my weight loss slowed. As soon as I moved to OWL and added exercise I began to see consistent results.

      Best of luck to you!

        Great work!

        Started: 3/2/09

        ~280~270~260~250~240~230~220~210~200~190

        Realistic Final Goal: 190
        Stretch Goal: 140

Successfully did Atkins in 1998 using 1992 copy of the book...before it was "hip". Lost 60lbs, exercised daily, felt and looked great. And then I moved in with a junk-food loving man, my mom got sick and passed away, then I suffered a spinal cord injury, and junk-food dude left me...and now I weigh 292lbs. That's 22lbs MORE than I weighed the first time around. It's 10 years later...I know this will work for me again.

Re: I lost 8 pounds on Induction!!!

Congrats on the 8 pounds gone! According to DANDR 2002, Dr. Atkins states that for women with over 50 pounds to lose and if you have lost 8 pounds on induction...you have an average metabolic resistance to weightloss. That's really great especially when you have PCOS, yeast issues and haven't been exercising. I would say if you're looking forward to having more choices - move to OWL. The first rung contains more veggies. Since you've done the veggie challenge you know how difficult it is to actually go over 25 net carbs with veggies. The first rung of OWL is 25 net carbs, that includes those 5 extra net carbs from veggies on the induction list. I say go for it and move along. I am losing very well in OWL. For me there hasn't really been much of a difference between induction and OWL in terms of weightloss. I'm still losing 2.5-3 pounds a week. Also, talk with your doctor about exercising...it's essential. I cannot believe the changes I've made to my body by actually moving it. My daughter calls me an American Gladiator When she draws pictures of our family, the stick figure of mom (me) has these big bumps on her arms. I asked her what those bumps are and she said, "Momma! Those are your big, strong muscles!" Love that!

Congrats on your 8# loss!! That is fantastic!

I'd say step it up a notch & go on to OWL. You've done a great job with the Veggie Challenge!
